Breast Pump and Insurance

I tried to purchase a breast pump this weekend at BBB with my FSA insurance card and was declined. I was told that the pump was an eligible item covered by FSA but can't be bought at BBB. It needs to be purchased at a medical supply store.

Anyone have a similar experience and know where I can buy it? Thanks.

Thanks. I did that and they weren't too helpful. She suggested drugstore.com but I'd like to make that type of purchase in person. Will definitely be checking the site out though. I have all this FSA $$ I need to use in the next 3 weeks or I'll lose it!

But if you know which pump you want what difference does it make if you order it online or get it from the store? Just curious, I am going through the same frustration but my insurance makes you go through 1 of 2 places and they are of course sold out...woo Chat Icon

My problem is that they won't tell me where to buy it! Apparently, BBB isn't an eligible place because they have so many other items and they want to make sure FSA $ is going to an eligible purpose. That's fine, I get it but then I can't even get an answer on where to go! I totally feel your Chat Icon

I just went on drugstore.com that WAS suggested and the pump I want is not on the FSA eligible list! Seriously?! Come on!

Did you check if your insurance will cover the pump (not through FSA - through insurance)? Try Edgepark.

Which pump do you want? is the pump covered under your insurance without using your FSA money. Maybe call and ask specifically about the pump and then tell them that you know it is covered under the new insurance laws and you would like to get it for free. They should know where they have their customers go to get their pumps. What insurance is it?

UGH!! I have to go through either edgepark, genidine or lucinacare but they are all out of stock :( SO stupid! They should just let us buy it and submit the receipt!

Thanks everyone! I will check with my insurance but since I'm in a use or lose situation with all this FSA $ for 2012, I really wanted to go that route.

Re: Breast Pump and Insurance

Use the walgreens link, both the backpack and the $291 pump are FSA qualified, there is a link to the left that shows FSA items...maybe search all pumps and click the FSA box, then go from there?

My employer has a cushion at the beginning of the new calendar year to use the previous year's FSA funds. So I have until 3/15 to use my remaining 2012 FSA $$.

That's cool. I would still see if your insurance will cover it. Then you can use the FSA money for other things, like extra parts and your prenatals.

Re: Breast Pump and Insurance

I did confirm, today in fact. I can incur expenses until 3/15, meaning I can make purchases before that date, and it will be covered under my 2012 FSA. My employer allows until 4/30 to submit for reimbursement for all 2012 claims. These are basically HR's statements that I received today, so I am good to go.
