Fever wont go down!

my DD has had a very high fever since this morning, 101-102+ she says her throat hurts.
I have been doing Tylenol-Motrin . It goes down , up again 4 hrs later .
She had 102.4 about 45 min ago -after giving her Motrin - I called the ped , he said give Tylenol , come in tomorrow morning.
I gave her Tylenol about 40 min ago and her fever is still 102.4 .
DD is almost 6 , she barely gets sick and almost never has fever and if she does it goes down after meds, she has never had fever this high ,
Very worried.
Thinking of calling the ped again if it doesn't go down in a bit. But do you think We should go to the ER?

at least go to pm pedatrics or an urgent care...just to be safe

How far apart did you give tylenol motrin....in my experience tylenol takes longer for the fever to go down

My oldest son had a 101 for 2 days, and it broke...my 22 month old is on the second day of fever that goes to 103...brought him to dr today, he said most likely viral, that its going around like crazy

Eta what are her symptoms? what is she acting like when she has the fever?

How is she acting? To be honest, that's not that high of a fever, but I understand why you are worried. I wouldn't consider going to the er unless the fever is more than 104 or the child is acting very lethargic, vomitting, etc. keep giving her tlc, making sure she is eating/drinking. See if you can take her to a pm pediatrics. Hang in there!

I would go to pm peds and have them swab for strep throat. A fever is typically the only symptom my dd gets.

I freaked when 3 yr old DD had a 5 day long fever...took her to ped. twice and both times told me there was nothing to give her antibiotic wise- it was viral. Just lots of liquids, warm baths, and tylenol/motrin to make her comfortable.

If the fever doesn't go down and you are nervous, can you try giving her a Luke warm bath? When DS had a high fever, like almost 105, a bath brought it down to 100 in about 5-10 minutes.

My 6 year old DS had a fever of 103 for 2 days last week and it freaked me out! He won't take meds, so all I could do was keep doing the cool towels on his head, neck and under his arms to bring the fever down. I finally went to the doctor and she said it's a virus, she wasn't worried and there was nothing they could really do. It finally broke on the 3rd day. One thing she told me that was interesting is that you should make sure you use lukewarm/cool compresses only and not ice cold ones because those bring the fever down too fast and shock the system.
