Need honeymoon suggestions - inexpensive

FH and I planned to go to Antigua for our honeymoon but unfortunately our money situation has changed and we need to do something a little less expensive. We're clueless on where to go. Here's our want list:

All-Inclusive
Good swimming/snorkeling water
Would prefer adults only but doesnt have to be
Under $3500
A place with lots to do (nightly entertainment, excursions, bars, fishing, etc.) but not like a college frat atmosphere

Any suggestions??

Compare prices for Mexico, DR, Jamaica, Bahamas and Barbados. They all offer everything you're looking for. If you want. Stay domestic, you can always go o the Florida Keys.

Instead of looking on my own, I'd go to a travel agency like Liberty or American Express Travel. They will be able to work with your budget and with your requirements for this special trip.
Oftentimes, they have great package deals and can offer nice perks.

DR is nice for all inclusive, DH and I are heading there in May. Easy flight too.
Although I've never been, I've heard Mexico Riveria Maya is nice too.

what time of year? You have to watch for hurricane season but at the same time, that time of year is much cheaper for some places but you are taking a risk.

Excellence Punta Cana. It was so beautiful and really inexpensive. The beaches were nice, but the water was a little rough. We spent most of our time in the pool that ran the length of the resort or the huge jacuzzi in our room! Chat Icon

Also- Jamaica! We stayed at Couples Swept Away, but I hear great things about a ton of other resorts in Jamaica. Plus, I just loved the atmosphere. Everyone was so nice, everything was no problem, even the water was calm and warm. It was like stepping into a bath.

ETA: We went to Jamaica in September, which is considered the rainy season. In the week we were there, there was about 20 minutes total of rain and it was so soft and so warm that we didn't even get out of the water. I honestly cannot wait to go back to Jamaica.

We would be traveling the end of September. I know that's considered hurricaine season but I'm thinking we're going to take our chances Chat Icon

Definitely take your chances, we've travelled a lot that time of year. But definitely buy trip insurance just to be safe.

I agree. You'll get great deals that time of year although you may get some rain depending on the island. If you give us dates we can do some research for youChat Icon

Thank you Thank you!! We're looking to travel between September 21st and September 28th. We would like to go for 7 days, but on our budget I'm not sure it will be possible. We would be willing to do 5 or 6 nights instead.

I'm reading a lot about Secrets Maroma Beach...has anyone been??

Hurricanes in September will hit the US more than they will hit the Caribbean. They changing weather brings them up higher.
That's why we get hit August/September/October instead of in May/June/July

I've travelled to the Caribbean during July and August and have never had a weather related problem.
Only once did the water get rough in Aruba (in early August) because a hurricane was close enough to affect the ocean, but not near enough to make rain or heavy wind.

Secrets or Excellence are great resorts, no matter where the property.

I HIGHLY suggest Excellence at Riviera Maya. DH and I stayed there for 10 days. SO Much to do..10 bars, 9 pools, 8 restaurants TONS of excursions - cruises, bars, clubs, parasailing, ATVS, romantic dinners, shopping.

It was all inclsuive, we stayed for 10 days flew out of JFK by Jetblue. We booked on Expedia.com. We paid $4,000. They upgraded for our honeymoon when we got there.

They have an incredible spa that was FANTASTIC!!
The restaurants were incredible. So delicious!!!! Look it up!! INCREDIBLE!!!!!

Los CAbos in Mexico or Puerto Vallarta is great as well. TONS AND TONS to do there. I LOVEDDDDDDDDD Puerto Vallarta!!!

Iberostar Grand in the Riviera Maya, Mexico!!
We stayed there for 9 nights in October 2008 and spent about $3500-4000. Flights to Cancun are usually inexpensive, so I think that's where you will save some $$.

Re: Need honeymoon suggestions - inexpensive

Just checked : Excellence Playa Mujeres (All Inclusive). My sister went here on her honeymoon and RAVED about it!

For the dates you said you wanted:

Junior Suite (Spa or Pool View)

$2305 - From Expedia. Your budget is MORE then enough for a week long honeymoon. If not slightly longer!

ETA: this is hotel only. Didn't think to look for flights but you should still be in budget with flights I would think.

I loved Excellence Playa Mujeres! We went this past August and I think we paid around $1400 per person for 5 nights with air. So it was around $2800 for 5 nights with direct airfare and airport transfers.

We got a good deal on either expedia or travelocity (can't remember which we used) by booking the flight and hotel together. GL!

ETA- Excellence Playa Mujeres is adults only and all-inclusive by the way.
