Wish I knew!! DD is doing the exact same thing except we have 2 dogs so I don't have to clean up the mess Chat Icon She usually feeds half her meal to the dogs. If I let her climb up and stand on a chair (preferably her brothers chair) she will eat with no problems. Strap her in her seat and forget it! I can't believe how crazy this child is! I haven't really started time outs, but I will put her down and walk away from her is she is being bad and she does not like that at all.

If she's really acting up, I put her on the floor a few feet away from me, ignore her and let her cry for a minute or two.

We are in the process of trying to sort out how to deal with this phase and I have a question... how do you get her to NOT run away? Or, what do you do if she does run away? I feel like DD would just take off if I put her on the floor (so I've never tried it, haha).

THIS EXACTLY! DD would definitly not sit still for a time out - but she is only 14 months old.

My 18 month old twins try this with me occasionally too.

I'll give a warning or two (depends how much of my patience is left) A stern NO NO NO and then I take the food away. I take the "privilege" of being able to feed themselves away. I spoon feed them after that. If they are just going ballistic, i take them out, let them walk it out (forget what they are upset about) and try it again.

I have set up a play pen specifically as a TIME OUT spot. Ill give warning and then put them in for 2 min, i walk away. I never thought it was going to work. I thought they were tooo young and were not going to understand. Especially because the second they would get out they would go back to the same behavior that got them put in time out to begin with. But after being consistent (a few weeks) all i have to do (90% of the timeChat Icon ) is say "do you want to go to time out???"

I agree with ignoring for the most part with LO, bc at this age ANY attention is just reinforcing the behavior. But sometimes MOmmy has to pull out the big guns ! (playpen)
