Wondering what to expect from this area... Never been to DR but am leaning towards this area instead of punta cana to be on the Caribbean side (calmer ocean). Specifically looking at dreams la romana so if anyone has been there, would love reviews as well! Thanks :)

Punta Cana waters are really calm, down by the resorts. Only place they were rough was when we stayed at Secrets, because that was up on the Atlantic side.

Went to Dream La Romana this past summer. The water was definitely calm and beautiful. We had a really great trip. You pretty much have to stay in the resort unless you do an excursion - but that's no matter where you go in DR (we did zip lining and a tour of the island that went to an artist colony (don't remember the name, but it was so beautiful and to a big cigar factory - for DH) DH and his sons also hired a fishing boat for a day, right off the beach. Right where the beach ends there is a small little market area with vendors selling souvenir chatchkey stuff - but the vendors never cross over the line onto the resort beach. We really enjoyed the resort - they have a lot of fun activities, the food was pretty good (not great, but definitely better at the restaurants then the buffet), and the resort itself, it looked a little bit nicer in the pictures than in real life, was still really nice. The service was great and everyone was very friendly. Feel free to ask me any questions

I was considering majestic colonial which is further up the coast and all the videos I've seen showed some pretty good waves... I don't know if it was the time of year or bc of its location. Maybe the resorts closer to the airport have calmer water

I have stayed at Paradisus a few times (with young children not mine) and will be at the Occidental this May.
