I've heard this a lot but don't really understand it. My ds trained at 2 1/2 in about two weeks. He has had only three or four accidents in the last six months BUT he still wears a pull-up at night and it is wet once or twice a week. I would personally rather that then six+ extra months of daytime diapers. That's why I never really understand the "sign" you mentioned. Not being snarky at all- I've just heard that a lot and never really got it.
My daughter is 18 mos and for several months now she doesn't pee at night. She will wake up with a dry diaper and pee in it after she wakes up.
I know this because sometimes in the morning I have gone into her room and she tells me pee pee and i feel the diaper and its warms...other times i go in at night just to check on her (put a blanket on, sneak a kiss etc) and feel her diaper and its dry.
I've taken this as a "sign" she is ready for potty training but isnt the sole indicator she's read. I suppose when I start training I wouldn't get rid of diaper at night as just a precaution.

I didn't think you were being snarky 
This was just an indication to me that DS began to show bladder control. I had introduced the potty before that just so he knew ehat it was all about, but never made a big deal out of it. When i did push it, he pushed back. Until one day, he just decided it was time. He was fully trained by 22 months. He literally has only had 2 accidents and he is almost 4. The best advice I received is to put the idea in their head and let them do it on their terms

 #1- day trained at 27 months in only 3 days(with only 3 accidents). Naturally started waking up dry at 32 months and was fully potty trained from then on.
#2- day trained at 24 months after only a few accidents over 6 days. Started waking up dry on her own at 25 months and was fully trained from then on. She decided when she wanted to. She asked to sit on the toilet one day and trained herself in only a few days.
 #2- is 22 months. For the last few months he has been asking to sit on the toilet but hasn't gone yet. I plan to give it a go after his birthday.
My girls took the lead and almost fully trained themselves. It was so simple and quick. I am guessing my son won't be so easy

I followed the 3 day potty training program and she swears that any child over the age of 22 months can be potty trained.
I have the program on email if you want me to email it to you. FM me.
I should clarify. I trained DD at 2.5. But the program says you can train at 22 months. Good luck!

I love potty training drama.
We started at 28 months. He was pee potty trained in 3 days.
He is poop potty trained (almost fully) at 2.5.

DS will be 3 in July and has zero interest. Won't tell us when he pees or poops so I am not pushing it.
DD was 3y3m and woke up one morning and said she was done with diapers. Never looked back, it was painless.
Hoping for the same with DS
