Repost from pregnancy: recent btdt nsuh moms: a couple questions

So this will be my third time at nsuh but the other two times it was 08 and 10 and it was the old maternity ward and I shared a room both times.....

1.) where exactly is the new maternity ward if its not on the 3rd floor anymore?
2.) what exactly is this new policy about rooming in w the baby? Do they force u to room in w the baby at night?
3.) are they still giving similac formula?
4.) I can't remember ....when can u schedule a hospital tour and is there a fee for the tour?

And please share any experiences....positive or negative

I thought it was on the third floor so I guess I'm no help there :)

They do not force you at all. They ask you once each night and that is it. I even had to go to the nursery to get my dd because they didn't bring her in early the next morning.

3.) are they still giving similac formula?

Yes, similac advance.

4.) I can't remember ....when can u schedule a hospital tour and is there a fee for the tour?

My tour was part of a lamaze class but I believe either way you have to pay for it. I think you call the nursing dept to schedule it. Personally...I don't think it was worth it especially since you've been before.

Good luck!

Do you know if all the rooms have private bathrooms?

Yes, each room has its own HUGE private bathroom.

Re: Repost from pregnancy: recent btdt nsuh moms: a couple questions

I gave birth in April...
1) if I remember correctly, it was the 3rd and 4th floors.
2) I chose to have DS with me both nights, but I asked them to take him for a few hours at some point because I was exhausted. No issue at all.
3) not sure about formula bc I BF
4) I went on a free tour of the maternity ward. They offer them once a month. I lost the number, but if u call the hospital they will help you.

Thanks! I thought so, but wasn't sure. I had DD at LIJ before the renovations and I had a private room but still had to share a bathroom and it was not pretty!

Floors 3, 4, and 5 are all maternity, but I think they do most of L&D on 3, then they will move you to another floor for the rest of the stay.

I did not have my baby with me overnight. They came to get her around 10pm (or when I asked them to), and brought her to me every morning at 8am.

Yes, still Similac

I did the tour as part of a birthing class, and there was a fee. Not sure if you only want the tour. So sorry about that.

Also, the recovery room they showed us on the tour was on floor 3 and it was okay at best. I was a little disappointed. But I was put on the 5th floor, and the room and bathroom were really really nice. Huge bathroom with a walk-in shower.

Also, they have these couches that pull out for your husband to stay over if he wants.

Re: Repost from pregnancy: recent btdt nsuh moms: a couple questions

There was also a mini fridge in the room, which was incredibly helpful.

The staff was SO nice. Definitely loved being there. I was there for 5 days so I really got to know everyone.

Also, don't hesitate to ask the nurses questions about the baby. I had a wonderful nurse, Carla, who showed me exactly how to get dd to take the bottle nipple, and also how to burp her.

And the photography has come a long way. They sort of look like those expensive newborn photos! I wish I knew that I could have brought "props" for the photographer to use. She asked me if I had a blanket or headband or hat or anything for the baby that I wanted to use, and I had nothing!

I just had DS there a month ago.

1.) where exactly is the new maternity ward if its not on the 3rd floor anymore?

It's the 3rd and 4th floor

2.) what exactly is this new policy about rooming in w the baby? Do they force u to room in w the baby at night?

You do not have to sleep with DC at night. DS went to the nursery at night.

3.) are they still giving similac formula?
Yes

4.) I can't remember ....when can u schedule a hospital tour and is there a fee for the tour?

I had my hospital tour at 30 weeks and there was no fee.

You do have your own room with your own bathroom. Also the couch pulls out into a bed and that's where DH stayed. My room had a room with a toilet, sink and mirror. I had another room with the shower. We also had an extra sink in the room. The room was HUGE!!
