Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

1. what time do you get home? between 7 and 8

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed? make dinner, do the dishes, tidy up some of the toys, do some ironing (which there is always a ton of) DH gives DS a bath and put him to sleep

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house? DH does laundry on the weekends. We food shop one of the weekdays (usually Thursday or Friday we will stop by Costco or Stop and Shop on our way home. we eat dinner there and get home later)

4. what do your weekends look like? wake up, clean, clean clean, two hours to myself, clean. the next day depends on our plans for the weekend.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry? no yard, but lots of things get neglected. when we have weekend plans for both days, very little gets done in our house. our house is never spotless, it's lived-in. there are days when i would not have people over and there are days when i feel really good about it. depends on how well DH and DS pick up after themselves.

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up? no. i used to be but it got too overwhelming. it's not worth the stress just to have the dishes done, especially when i will have to do the ones after breakfast when i get home anyway.

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

1. what time do you get home?

One of us is home with the girls by 6:30.

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed?

We let ODD watch a show while we prepare dinner. I nurse YDD if she is hungry. Try to have dinner ready by 7, bath at 7:45, in bed by 8:30. Then ideally we will clean up the kitchen, prepare lunches for the next day, wash pump parts. Most of the time though I fall asleep by 9 and DH watches TV. I usually get up early and get everything ready but we are going to try to be disciplined about doing it the night before to make our morning run smoother.

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house?

I send laundry out every two weeks. I live in an apt without a washer/dryer. We have them in the bldg but this is our luxury line item. Food shopping is usually done on the weekend as a family. We clean on the weekends too but we are not anal about keeping a super clean home. As long as it is tidy I am ok with it.

4. what do your weekends look like?

Grocery shopping and cleaning in the morning. Afternoon is whatever we have going on - seeing friends, family, or just hanging out at home. The girls are young so they are not in activities yet.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry?

Cleaning. I am ok with it. We both work full-time so something has to give. I try to focus on my girls when I get home and spend time with them, not rush around trying to be supermom.

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up?

Nope. I pass out if I am tired. Which I usually am after working a full day with 2 pump breaks, nursing in the AM and PM and an infant that does not sleep through the night.

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

My kids are not very small so not sure if this pertains to me:

1. what time do you get home?

About 5:15

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed?

If my dh doesn't start dinner than I will. Eat, clean up dinner. Help dc with homework if needed, look at school things. Usually run one of the kids someplace they need to go to. Make sure kids take showers. Watch TV, go on computer, read, spend time with the kids playing games, etc.

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house?

Laundry-usually every 2-3 days so I don't get backed up and have to do it all on the weekend.
Food Shopping-once a week
Cleaning-a little bit everyday so it doesn't get that bad and larger cleanings on weekend.

4. what do your weekends look like?

Usually running one dc all over the place for school, friends. Food shopping, any errands, anyplace else we go. Try and have one day of relaxing at home and finishing up any laundry and cleaning. Going out with friends or have friends over.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry?

Dusting lol. I hate it and I just can't keep up.

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up?

Yes. Unless something needs to be soaked in the sink, everything needs to be put into the dishwasher or washed.
I like to wake up to a clean house as I hate feeling stressed as soon as I get up. Same thing when I go out. I would like to walk back into a clean, picked up home.

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

oy. here are my questions:
1. what time do you get home? 3 days of the week 8:15 pm, 2 days 6:10 pm

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed? LATE DAYS: quickly eat, get DS changed and ready for bed, and then decompress. Sometimes I will straighten up a little, but usually dont have time because the next day is an early day so I have to make lunches, etc. On my early days I get DS home from school, play with him a little have dinner, bathe DS, get him to bed and then do same as my late day.

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house? Days off/weekend

4. what do your weekends look like? On the weekends I am not working (3/4), cleaning (I will pick rooms of attack, the ones that are top priority), I will do the grocery shopping, etc, and then try to plan something fun for DS. On the weekends I work I get nothing done, but I have the day before and the day after off so I try to get all the cleaning laundry etc done those days along with anything else i have to do.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry? My bedroom is usually last priority for obvious reasons (DS is not allowed in there anyway). My laundry tends to pile up. I have tried to stop neglecting myself, but thats an uphill battle

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up? Well, DS is 3, so I have started to incorporate him in cleaning up after himself. We make it a game. I set the timer for 5 minutes and we clean up the toys and if the timer doesnt beep on him he gets a sticker. That has helped a lot! The other stuff bothers me, but I had to let go of a lot because I am not superwoman and I was getting really stressed out. It's not worth it. I would rather spend quality time with my son and get some quiet time than stress out about cleaning. Otherwise I wound up not sleeping because the only time I could unwind and have quiet time was time I should have been sleeping.

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

1. what time do you get home?
I am usually in the door by 6pm after picking up db.

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed?
Get home, play with db, feed her dinner, bathe her, put her to bed (usually goes down 7-7:30). Then I'll clean up from dinner, get things ready for next day (baby's bag for daycare and my pump parts aand lunch) and then watch tv until I go to bed around 10.

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house?
Everything gets done on the weekends. We don't have laundry in the house, so we send it out to be done and folded. Food shopping is done every Sunday and cleaning usually Sundays as well.

4. what do your weekends look like?
Usually try to make most plans on Saturday and the get household things done on Sundays.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry?
Feels like everything is neglected. Mostly the cleaning. We try to keep straightened up and clean, but it's so hard and I'd rather that be the last thing we do. I will not sacrifice time with my daughter For a clean home.

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up?
Absolutely not. I'm the type of person who would rather relax then clean :)

as you can see from my questions, i feel short on time and overwhelmed with chores.

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

1. what time do you get home?

M-W - 415pm Th-F - 300 pm

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed?/

*put DD for nap -- huge help!
*feed dogs and take them out
* make lunch for tomorrow
* pack DD's stuff for next day
* make dinner
* get DD from crib
* DH gets home at 545 and we eat dinner
* DH cleans up from dinner while I bathe DD
* play with DD
* bottle/bed by 730/8pm
* 8pm until 10ish - computer, tv, grading papers if needed, fold laundry

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house?

laundry - every day. I do smaller loads so its more manageable. Put it in before work and dryer before I leave, fold later.

food shopping - we do bigger shopping twice a month. we go thrusday/friday nights as a family. Stores are empty, DD loves the food store. Smaller trips when needed, DH usually runs to the store or these.

clean house - weekends. we both pitch in. some weekends its the bare minimun (vaccum and bathroom) and others its a really good cleaning. The kicthen is cleaned nightly after dinner, I have issues with germs in the kitchen. lol

4. what do your weekends look like?

Most weekends we have something to do, family party or something or we try to do some activity. Saturday - usually cleaning in the am. The rest of the day we spend together. Sundays - church in the am and usually home the rest of the day with family coming over and DH and I cooking together.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry?

House is def. not as clean as I would like it to be but it is tidy.

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up?

Yes, to an extent. But then there are some days where DD's toys are everywhere and I just kick them to create a path so nobody trips! Chat Icon

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

Disclaimer, I am on maternity leave right now, so I'm answering for how it was when I was working/when I go back

1. what time do you get home?
4:45ish

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed?
wash all lunch dishes while DD plays
make dinner (I do a lot of cooking on the weekend, so this usually isn't super time consuming during the week) and eat
throw in a load of laundry (not every night, a few times a week)
play with DC for a little while
bath, bedtime for DC
pack lunches for next day, straighten up
fold laundry
veg out on computer/tv

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house?
laundry-I try to throw in a load a few times a week and then catch up on the weekends. Leaving it all for the weekends was too overwhelming
food shopping-sometimes on Friday afternoon before I pick up from daycare, otherwise first thing in the morning on Saturday or Sunday
cleaning-sometimes after bedtime on Friday night, or during nap on Saturday or Sunday (depends on what we have going on that weekend)

4. what do your weekends look like?
Saturday-food shop and run early am, try to do something fun with DC, maybe run some errands
Sunday- try to hang out at home. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen prepping food for the week. If we go away for the weekend (my family is OOS) it throws me off because I am so particular about food, lol.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry?
negelcted-me, lol. Haven't had new clothes in ages, my hair is almost always in a state of disarray and ends up in a ponytail, etc. DH takes care of the yard, and I take care most of the of the inside. We are both pretty anal so we try not to let it go. It's hard though bc it like we are always doing, doing, doing, kwim?

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up?
Yes, I am that type of person. I am trying to let more of it go though.

ETA: I also feel like my house rarely gets good "deep" cleanings because I am not willing to devote 2+ hours of my weekend to cleaning.

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

It is HARD. I used to be an OCD cleaner, not so much anymore. My house is now "tidy" but by far from spotless. I was still borderline spotless when we had 1, but since our brood has grown, I have had to learn to let some things go, much to my dismay.

1. what time do you get home? On average, 6:15

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed? The first thing I do is get home and IMMEDIATELY start picking up the house for about 10 mins while the kids play and have a light snack (I don't cook). DH gets home about 20 mins after me and he starts dinner. We eat around 6:45ish. We play until dinner is ready until around 7:30ish and then starts bath/bed for the youngest. After the youngest is in bed, I play with the older until about 8:30, then it is bath and bed for them and they are in bed by 9. Somewhere in there we squeeze in homework and school stuff.

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house? DH does the laundry and the food shopping, on the weekends. I handle the cleaning. I do a once over of all the rooms every night, just a quick pick up and surface wipe down. Then once a week I do a deep clean.

4. what do your weekends look like? They are mostly just downtime.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry? Not really, we manage and get it all done. Like I said, my house isn't nearly as spotless as it used to be and the laundry isn't done AS often. However, it is never in a state where I would be mortified if anyone should show up announced.

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up? I NEED the toys put away and the dishes done, and everything back in its place otherwise it is harder to get a handle on if you don't keep up with it, but it doesn't need to be spotless, I am OK with tidy these days.

My house is a mess.
My life is a mess.
I don't do anything when I get home from work other than play with and feed DD, then get her ready for bed.
Then I just sit on the couch and stare at the TV or computer until I fall asleep.
I am exhausted 24/7
I barely clean.
I'm lucky if I shave my legs once in the season of winter.
Hope that makes everyone feel better!

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

1. what time do you get home?
5pm

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed?
Heat up DDs dinner (usually leftovers), throw her stuff from the day in the dishwasher, feed her, play, start cooking, bath (every other night), books, sing, put DD to bed by 7:15, eat dinner, DH cleans up while I do whatever else needs to be done (laundry, put toys away, make DDs lunch for the next day, etc), relax for a bit, go to bed.

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house?
Laundry - I try to do a load every night after DD goes to bed.
Food shopping - We do it as a family every Saturday morning. DD loves going to the stores.
Clean the house - My whole house is never fully cleaned to be honest. I try to do the bathroom real quick while DD plays in the bath. We vaccum everyday with the Swiffer and then use the real vaccum on the weekends when we have time. Kitchen gets wiped down during cleanup from dinner.

4. what do your weekends look like?
Errands and visiting with my Dad one day. Other day we visit with friends, try to do soemthing fun with DD, or just take the day to hang out at home. All depends on DHs work schedule.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry?
Everything.

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up?
I used to be, but not anymore. The dirt will always be there.

Just some other tips that I've found to be really helpful:

I plan out our meals for the week. This eliminates the stress of trying to figure out what we're eating for dinner. It also helps with making the shopping list.

I also have an organizer that has 7 pockets hanging in DDs room. I lay out all of her clothes for the week every Sunday, so I don't have to deal with that during the week.

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

1. what time do you get home?

Anywhere from 6:30-7:45 depending on whether DH is off that day.

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed?
Dinner, play with DD, bathe DD (every couple of days). after she goes to bed (usually 815-845) I will play on computer or watch tv after "speed-cleaning" with DH (if he's home).

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house?
Laundry: weekends.
Food shopping: weekends or DH will do it during the week when he's off.
Cleaning: I straighten and surface clean almost every day. Vaccuuming and stuff on the weekends. Dh will sometimes clean the bathroom when he's off during the week (if I ask).

4. what do your weekends look like?
varies, depends whether dh is working, etc. usually a lot of errands and family time.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry?
I am slightly neglected (i.e., haven't gotten a haircut since july, that sort of thing). But I'd say most neglected is my marriage... working to try and fix that though!

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up?
depends on my mood!

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed?
I'm home around 5:30 everyday and that's because I usually pick up something from the store for the week so I don't have to do run to grocery store during the weekend. DD is a night owl so she's up until 9pm sometiems later. We play, we eat, give DD her bath, we read.. its all about DD. I throw something on the stove, or my nanny cooks some food, and we eat that or we have leftovers from my parents from the weekend. If I do cook, DD is the kitchen with the pots and pans. If DH is home, he'll help too.

3. when do you do laundry?
Our nanny does the laundry. She can't sit still.

4. what do your weekends look like?
mommy and me in the morning, so we go for that on saturday. Then we get some food, we tidy up a bit and then its all play time. If DH is working, the its DD and me all day.. love it!

5. anything neglected? yourself? just because laziness the yard?- I'd like to say I;m don't have me time anymore. I shower when DD is alseep. I've been dying to get a pedicure but unless DD is with my parents, I don't like to leave her. I used to hit the gym a lot, now that DD wont let me out of her sight, we "excercise together"

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up?

not really.. it would be nice but the day goes by quick and DD is not the best sleeper, so if she's sleeping, I hit the sack!

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

1. what time do you get home?

I work a much different schedule. I work 8p-8a three times a week. If I'm lucky I get home at 9am.

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed?

DD is in daycare so I can sleep after work during the day. Usually I just go to bed. When I wake up in the afternoon I'll take care of the dishwasher, a load of laundry and maybe wash the baby toys (like the swing cover) before I go pick her up.

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house?

I try to do a little bit each day. DH likes to do the laundry, he does it on the weekend and I'll do a few loads if needed during the week. Usually I do DD's laundry. Food shopping we do on the weekend and I will also go after work while DD is in daycare.

4. what do your weekends look like?

Every weekend is different as my schedule changes each week. Lately I've been working weekends and DH has DD. He takes care of laundry and dishes and some cooking while I sleep during the day inbetween shifts.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry?

Nothing is perfect. my house is quite messy. But I make sure kitchen is clean since that's where we prepare food and bottles and I like to keep our clothes, towels and sheets clean. But it is quite cluttered around here. neglected: my roots!

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up?

Not at all. Sleep is way more important to me.

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

1. what time do you get home?

I'm lucky. As a teacher and as someone who works very close to my job, I'm home about 3:45, 4:00.

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed?

Play with DS, hang out with DH, cook, clean, do stuff that needs to be done, shower, relax.

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house?

I feel like I have FINALLY found a routine that works.

I clean the bathroom and kitchen and dust on Friday after work. That way, on Saturday, I do laundry and vacuum. I sometimes send my laundry otu and sometimes I bring it to my inlaws house. But it helps to break the chores over 2 days. I'm also done by 11 and have the rest of the day to have fun.

I meal plan on Sunday (just got back into the habit) and get a grocery list together. Then I will send DH on Monday since he's home that day or I will do a peapod/fresh direct order. But doing this saves a lot of what's for dinner anxiety.

I also iron my clothes for the week on Sunday. That helps tremendously. I just grab and get dressed.

4. what do your weekends look like?

Cleaning, yes, but there is a lot of family time. DS is lttle, so no sports or anything. We may stay home, visit family, run errands.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry?

No yard, since we are in a co-op. Excercise. Since DS has been born, that is the one thing I have had difficulty bringing back into my life. I know I have the time, but I don't have the motivation.

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up?

In a way. I don't like the bed messy in the morning and I clean the kitchen and vacuum after dinner every night. I like to wake up to a clean kitchen and a living room that is decent.

I also shower at night to save time in the morning.

ETA: it also helps that DH will shop for food, will give DS a bath and will run errands. He is a big help.

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

oy. here are my questions:
1. what time do you get home? Pick up DS from daycare at 545, get home by 6.

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed? LOL that's a good one...dinner, dishes, clean up the kitchen, put DS to bed if it is my night (including bath), if it is DH's night, I usually am doing laundry, washing, folding etc. It never ends.

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house? Laundry I swear I am doing at least 4 nights a week. I do mine, my DS's and the sheets and towels. My DH does his own, I made him start doing that when DS was born. Food shopping I usually go on Sundays and get what I need for the week rather than go every few weeks and struggling to find stuff for dinner. That has helped a lot. I have a lot in my freezer and my DH gets home before me so I remind him to preheat the oven then we pop something in.

4. what do your weekends look like? Weekends I do like to enjoy our family time but usually at some point on Saturdays or Sundays I am dusting, washing the floors, and random other stuff that needs to be get accomplished.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry? I am picky so I straighten up every day but at least by Wednesday or Thursday I am itching to wash the kitchen floor and clean the bathrooms...

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up? YES!!! I need to have a certain level of neatness. That's just how I am.

as you can see from my questions, i feel short on time and overwhelmed with chores. - You will find your routine...I have learned to let some things go, for example if it is 930pm, I JUST SAT DOWN for the day and I still have laundry in the dryer that should be folded...I sometimes just let it go one more day.

Re: full time working moms- what time do you get home and tell me how clean/not clean is your house?

1. what time do you get home?
I get home around 6pm and my husband is usually home around 5:30. I have a nanny so the kids are already home and my oldest is done with his homework.

2.what do you do from the time you get home till the time you go to bed?
We get dinner ready, I nurse my little guy, review homework with my oldest, clean up from dinner and bath time.

3. when do you do laundry? food shopping? clean your house?
Laundry gets done mainly on Fridays when I work from home and then a load here and there throughout the week. My husband does the bulk food shopping once a week after work. I have a cleaning lady every other Wednesday and then I just maintain throughout the two weeks.

4. what do your weekends look like?
They vary. We have basketball on Saturday mornings, swimming on Sunday afternoons and we squeeze in social events in between. We try to spend as much quality time as possible since we work all week.

5. anything neglected? yourself? the yard? the bathroom? the laundry?
Sometimes the house gets neglected, but never myself or the kids.

eta bonus question: are you the type of person that won't go to bed until the kitchen or house is straightened up?
I like to go to sleep with everything straighted up and clean but more often than not it does not happen. I am beat in the evenings so I usually do half in the evening and half in the morning.
