Girls and potty training - when you are out
I started potty training DD last week and she is doing FANTASTIC!!!
One day of accidents all day and then after that, it just clicked and in the course of a week she has only had 1 accident.
The thing is, I have been putting her back in a pull-up when we go out.
She will only go potty in her potty chair (refuses to sit on the real toilet).
I think I can probably start to transition her to the real toilet, but it got me thinking . . . what do you do when you are out in a public restroom??
Are you supposed to hold them over the bowl or something?
I just can't logistically think about how that is supposed to work. How do you carry her?
Also, she is the very fastidious type. Completely freaks out when she sees a speck of dust. I don't think I will ever get her to go in a public restroom.
any suggestions?

Re: Girls and potty training - when you are out
My granddaughter is almost 27 mos. and pretty much completely potty trained during the day. My daughter puts her in a pullup also when they go out. She bought a little portable called le pottit. It has disposable bags tha t you throw away. She also bought toilet seat covers. My granddaughter will go on the regular toilet. She bought the paper covers in babies r us. They hang down the side of the bowl so if your daughter wants to "hold on" her hands are on the paper cover.

Re: Girls and potty training - when you are out
I bought one of those potty seats with the handles, keep it in a plastic target bag inside a back pack. I like it because I hold it by the handles so I don't have to touch anything that touches the toilet. I also use the Summer brand paper toilet seat covers underneath the potty seat. They are huge and cover everything. This way my DD does not touch any part of the toilet at all.

Re: Girls and potty training - when you are out
I potty trained DD in 3 days and we went cold turkey with the pull ups at the time. I never put her in them again during the day, when we went out she wore panties. I felt it would be too confusing to go back and forth. She never had an accident while out.
When I trained her I made sure to have her use the little potty as well as the regular potty with a training seat so she got use to going on both. She was okay going between the two.
On amazon I got this little travel potty seat that I would take around with me when we were out. It sat on top of the public potty so she didn't have to touch anything and I didn't have to worry about her falling in. After a while when she got comfortable using the public restrooms I just would cover the public potty with toilet paper or the seat protectors and then I bent down in from of her so she could hold onto me while she went to the bathroom. I keep the travel potty in my SUV for emergencies when we aren't near a bathroom. (It comes with little bags and has pop out legs so you can use it on the go)

I had a similar one! It was Dora or something. I loved it! Folded up small and it made it easier for being away from home. Just make sure to hold onto it when they are sitting on it, it can slide a bit, which terrified my DD.

Re: Girls and potty training - when you are out
My daughters used the regular toilet. One was 24 months and the other was 27 months. They would hold themselves up. I just washed their hands well after. DS is 22 months and has been holding himself up on the toilet(with no seat) just fine for a few months.

ITA.......that's why I ended up not training my DD until 3y3m old. But the plus side of waiting.........it was an absolute breeze to potty train her.

It's funny because they really work on potty training at daycare. And she does great there. But I am all laxed about it at home because I really could care less about having her trained. To me, it's more of a PIA than anything. I love diapers!

I was the same way. Diapers were easy......sooooo easy. I am glad I waited. In the end, who cares what age they train. I never met an adult who isn't potty trained so it's all good in the end.

Re: Girls and potty training - when you are out
just trainned DD last week using the 3 day potty training method which meant no pullup or diapers and it worked (except for night still dealing with that )
I got this potty seat to use when i'm out but we ended up using it at home too ... love it ... uses zip lock bags (i bought cheap ones from target and my friend suggested going to the dollar store which i may do once i run out of the ones from target) very easy clean up.
I plan to buy disposable seat covers. I have bathroom phobias and public ones skeeve me out ... i did think of getting the ones people posted but the thought of having to touch the bottom of it freaks me out ...i know ridiculous ...
we havent taken her out in public much not becuase off potty training but because she is a terror

I'm really grossed out about public bathrooms as well.
I ended up ordering this:
and these toilet seat covers which are waterproof and are big enough to hang over the toilet seat.
I plan on putting the seat covers on first and then the travel potty.
uggghhh, just the thought of it skeeves me.

Re: Girls and potty training - when you are out
Ugh going through this now. We have a travel fold up seat but don't always remember to bring it with us. Lately I've been cleaning the seat with antibacterial wipes, putting lots of tp or a toddler cover on it and holding her on the bowl. She is TERRIFIED of public bathrooms (especially when the toilet flushes atomatically), so it's always a tearful hassle. If there's also an electric hand dryer...holy hell she freaks!
