newborn "gulping"
not sure if we should try a new bottle or leave it alone but DD swollows HARD, gulps and as a result gets huge air pockets. 90% of the time, I can burp her but if she won't burp, the bottle is coming up. She does suck very, very hard.
we are using slow nipples with playtex drop-ins, the nursers.
any suggestions on different bottles that may have "slower" nipples?

We are using Dr. Brown's - some may say they are a pain to clean because of the parts...they are. But for DS and the gas - they have been the best bottles so far we have tried...and we have tried at least 3 or 4 brands.

i started DD with playtex ventaire when we first came home but she.would gulp so much and her burps would be so hard. She would cry after. Switched to Dr browns and she still gulps a bit, but her burps aren't half as bad. DS used to gulp too and eventually he grew put of it. I think its just a normal newborn thing. DD will be 2 weeks on Saturday.

Re: newborn "gulping"

looks like I am also going to be trying similac sensitive. she has been so gassy and fussy - not sure if its the formula or combo or bottle/gulping/gas.

I just switched DD to enfamil gentlease because of the gassyness and inconsoleable crying. She still burps a LOT but is definitely better since switching. Good luck!!!

Re: newborn "gulping"
We had to order preemie size nipples for DD, because she did the same thing! Not all bottles have that size, but Dr. browns does. Found them on Amazon.

Re: newborn "gulping"
my dd did this with the drop ins. the nipple was to wide for her. she seemed to not get the whole nipple in her mouth so the gaps on the sides made her suck a lot of air. we changed to Dr Browns and it was much better. i would stay away from anything with a wide mouth ie: born free, tippee tommee.

My DD did the same thing for the first week or 2. The nurse at the Dr's office told me to remove the bottle every so many sips, to remind her to gulp, instead of doing the big gulps. ( but dont remove it completely from the mouth, just enough to remind her)After a few days of that we were good. We also use Playtex drop ins.

Re: newborn "gulping"
We have the same issue when my daughter gets bottle fed. She was exclusively breastfed until I had to go to work. The slow nipples werent slow enough, it still sounded like she was choking it back and she would be dribbling more milk than swallowing.
We switched to Dr. Browns preemie nipples. They work perfect for her except we have to pull it out of her mouth sometimes for it to get its shape back. Theyre super soft so they easily get flattened from her sucking but they go back to its shape when you take it out of the mouth for a second.
