if you started solids early
My DD just turned 4 months last week and my pedi suggested starting some solids. She is EBF and wanting to eat every 2 hours - even at night. The pedi thinks starting solids will help her be more "full" and hopefully sleep longer at night. DD1 was also EBF and I didn't start solids until sometime between 5 and 6 months. She was a good sleeper though. So if you started solids early, around 4 months, did you just do cereal until they were a bit older, or did you start with cereal and move on to other foods as well? I don't know if i should just add a meal of cereal a day and see if it helps, but hold off on other foods until she is a bit older? or just progress like I would have if she started solids later on. any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

if you started solids early
I started DS at 4 months (He was a formula baby). I did rice cereal for 3 days. Rice cereal can be gassy and DS had enough gas the first 3 months to last a lifetime so I didnt want to linger with the rice. We then did Oatmeal for 4 days and then alternated between trying a fruit and a veggie. i always stuck with the one thing for 3 days before i moved on.
There is no right or wrong (although everyone has different views on which should be first) Also if you do not feel like starting at 4 months you can wait and its no harm. My DS started sleepign through the night around the same time but not consistenly.

Re: if you started solids early
My ped gave us the go ahead for cereal at 4 months. We started him on oatmeal (skipped rice altogether) and then 2 weeks later mixed fruits in with his oatmeal. He is 5 months now and he gets the oatmeal mixed with a fruit or a veggie (mostly fruits though) 1x a day... I think in a month or so I will move him to 2x a day.

Started on oatmeal for 2 or 3 weeks, then moved on to fruits & veggies. Good luck! :)

we did this at 4 months. We did cereal once a day at night to help him sleep through the night better- i know that supposedly doesnt help, but he was getting longer stretches with it. now at 6 months he is getting cereal twice a day, and one serving of fruits/veggies. and three bottles.

Re: if you started solids early
I had same exact situation with DS - i did cereal for about a month, then started slowly with fruits.

Re: if you started solids early
Ped told me to start solids with DS at 4 months (he was BF) because he was always hungry. We started with rice cereal, but that made him too constipated so the ped had us move right to oatmeal 1x day at dinner. DS quickly wanted more solids - within a couple of weeks we started fruits for 2 weeks and then went to veggies. We used Earths best cereals and fruits and veggies to start (they have first fruits/veggies packages). We also began adding more meals a day as DS wanted. DS is now 9 months and has 3 meals a day and still has a little oatmeal before bed to fill him up. Best of luck!

Thank you everyone! I think I will just try the cereal for a while before moving onto anything else.
