what to do in the "in-between" stage?? (babies don't want to lie down all of the time but can't sit on their own yet)

Hi - I have 3.5 month old b/g twins.

They can hold their heads up when we carry them but can't sit up on their own yet.

They used to be able to spend a lot of time in pack n play or on activity mats, but now they get cranky / restless on their backs fairly quickly.

They don't really care for the bouncer.
We use the swings for naps.

But they basically want to be carried around upright all day.

DS will tolerate the baby carrier harness but DD doesn't like being in the harness. Harness or not, I can't carry them both and I wouldn't even be able to carry one all day.

They tolerate tummy time only for a few minutes before crying.

Are there other devices I can put them in where they'll be more upright but don't require them to support themselves yet?

I assume they're still not ready for an exercauser, but I don't know....I don't have one.

I know there's the infant-toddler rocker but that looks fairly similar to the rock-n-play (which we also have and they don't like anymore either)?

I read, sing to them, give them lots of face to face interaction, but I need something for when I have to eat, use the bathroom, do basic household stuff. Or maybe just sit down for 5 minutes!

Any ideas / suggestions?

TIA!

My youngest was like that. She loved the bumbo, which supports them in a sitting position. We had the tray on ours and had some of the toys that suction cup to a high chair tray or small hand held toys we would put on it and she loved it.

We used this for both DS and DD and both loved it. You can start putting them in an exersaucer or jumperoo at 4months. Both of my kids loved them too.

Right now you can also try putting them in their highchairs and put toys on their trays. Itll help them to learn to grab for things too.

I would get the bumbo or something similar, try propping them up in the boppy, and have them practice sitting up with you supporting them. In a few weeks they'll probably be ready for the excersaucer if you give them practice holding their heads up a lot. DD starting sitting unsupported before 5 months and has never looked back!

exersaucer if they have good head control already.. DS is 14 weeks and has been in it for since about 11 weeks

DD is 4 months and loves her jumper. We have been using it for about a month now. Her feet didnt always hit the bottom, so I use to put a towel on blacket under it, so her feet don't just hang there.

Definitely the Infant-to-Toddler Rocker. It's nothing like the Rock N Play! And they'll be able to use it for a while. I've read the Bumbo isn't good for babies (I had it with my older DD, but haven't taken it for my LO who is 3 1/2 mos). I would be very hesitant to put a 3 1/2 month old in a exersaucer or jumper. It's not only about head control, but also positioning of their legs, that I don't believe is appropriate for such little ones.

same here - DS loooves to jump. He's 3 months old now and has been using it since about 2-3 weeks ago. I put a pillow underneath him so he can reach the floor.

My boys loved the boucy seat - they could sit and see everything and play with the little toy bar or the boppy pillow they are more upright to see things

Love this! I actually attach link toys to it also and she loves it. She's starting to sit up for a few seconds on her own so the bouncer is almost done for Chat Icon Chat Icon
