BTDT moms - what do you think?

I'm due with our first child on may 31. DH cousin is getting married in TX on June 21. He wants to go, leaving late Thursday and coming back early Sat (wedding on Friday). I don't mind him going necessarily, but not knowing how anything is going to be I'm a bit nervous.

What do you think???

I think you will be fine.

You'd probably be getting up and doing a lot of the work with the baby anyways, with or without your DH around. Chat Icon

Maybe you can have family or a friend come stay during that time if it makes you feel better?

BTDT moms - what do you think?

I think you will be fine. Dh went on an overnight and it was fine. I also went on a business trip pretty early on and even dh was fine by himself.

As someone who delivered two weeks late, that would be my biggest concern. If you have DC a week late or more, you could end up with him leaving you with a baby that's 2 weeks old or less. Just something to consider, unless you know your doctor won't let that happen of course.

Re: BTDT moms - what do you think?

You'll be fine without your dh. They dunno what the hell they are doing in the beginning anyways to be any type of help. LOL. At that stage, dh did everything wrong in my eyes and I was better off with him not trying to help LOL.

Re: BTDT moms - what do you think?

When I had my DD, DH worked midnights.
He was off for 2 weeks after her birth then it was ALL me- alone with a newborn all night long.
And I had a HORRIBLE newborn- up every 2 hours with no break at all.
Anytime it was hard I just thought of all the single moms out there who did it alone all the time, from day one, every single day.
I was fine.
I think you will be ok

You will be ok. DH had to go to Boston last week when DS was 3 weeks old. He was gone from Sunday - Thursday. It was a little rough but my mom did come over when she got out of work just so I could nap so the overnight wouldn't be as bad.

Ehh, I seem to be in the minority here, but I had to have an emergency c-section with my DD and I needed DH around for a few weeks. If you have a relative or friend who can stay with you though, then by all means he should go.

I think you will be fine. DH had a weird schedule and I stayed overnight alone with DS for the first time when he was 10 days old. I was extremely nervous but, it went fine.

DH went away for work for 4 nights when DD was almost 4 weeks. It was hard, but we were ok. Women do it alone all the time, barring any extreme circumstances you can't predict, you'll be ok.

Re: BTDT moms - what do you think?

You'll be fine. But when my DH went away for an overnight at 3 or 4 weeks pp I packed DD1 up and went to my parents. I didn't need the help, but having someone else around to hold the baby while I showered was nice, too.

I think you'll be fine. DS had to go away for a week when DS was a few weeks old for work, and still goes away for a week or so every few months. I deal. Sometimes it's rough, but thankfully I have my mom and MIL close. You'll be doing most of the care any ways... Just remember, as soon as the baby goes down for a nap in the AM put it in a baby seat and bring it with you in the bathroom and shower! It always makes me feel so much more normal in times of chaos!

You'll be fine. You may not think it, or you may not feel it, but you will be - I promise Chat Icon

Have a "practice" night the week before if it will make you feel better. Where DH is home but pretend he isn't.

You will be fine. I had a c-section and was all alone a week after I came home. I did all the child care (days and nights) while I was home on maternity leave. Actually, I was glad when he went back to work b/c I just got to do things "my way" Chat Icon

I guess I'm also in the minority here, but I would be annoyed at my husband if he even considered leaving. We actually went through a similar situation when my second was born, and my husband did not go. His choice and mine. In the beginning I felt so unsure of myself and I still do now, even though on my second and he's 6 months.
I would think that unless its a sibling he should sit out of this one and I would think that they would understand.

I was going to say just this. If you have family near by that you could rely on to help out while he is gone, then maybe. You just never know what the future holds. If you have a c-section you may be still recovering, post-partum issues, colicky baby, etc. I had all of these... I was a complete basket case new mom and didn't even handle DH going back to work too well, never mind an overnight trip. Just things to consider. You could have a little angel and it would be a non issue! Chat Icon
