I ate all cold cuts unhested my entire pregnancy. And my dr was fine with it.
Cold cuts seem to be the dont eat food of the time but my dr said there is nothing wrong with them in moderation.

I'm a firm believer that if you're craving something that badly... have it! Even if it's just a small taste. I've been eating everything this pregnancy. Just use your judgement. And a salami sandwich does sound divine right about now!

Re: Food vent and question
If you heat it up, it's fine.
I would personally not eat unheated cold cuts. I think that following "everything in moderation" for some things is fine, like caffeine but with cold cuts the concern is listeria, and you can get that eating it only once. The risk is small, but everytime you eat it you are taking a chance. You should do what you are comfortable with.

This is my thinking too. I eat turkey sandwiches all the time but I heat the turkey to steaming first.

Re: Food vent and question
to each his own and yes, in moderation is always a good thing to follow...but let me add it's not the sodium, or nitrates/nitrites, etc but the higher chance of getting listeria. I know someone who lost a baby at 27wks from Listeria so to me it's just not worth....don't want to be a debbie downer but something to think about

ITA. If you want to eat cold cuts, eat them. Moderation, though, makes no difference since it only takes 1 bad serving to make you sick. Listeria isn't something that builds up in your body over time. You have it or you don't.

My dr said cold cuts are fine as long as they are from a reputable place. I have a cold turkey sandwich everyday and I'm and LO are fine. If starve if I didn't eat cold cuts since its the only thing I eat for lunch.

Re: Food vent and question
My Dr. explained it to me like this.... If you want something, eat it. Just use logic. don't go off and buy food from a hole in the wall you have never tried before. Eat from reputable places that care for the food they serve, and only eat non recommended foods in moderation.

Re: Food vent and question
With my first pregnancy I stayed away from cold cuts........which I love!! And it drove me insane since that's usually what I have for lunch every day.
This pregnancy, I eat sandwiches whenever I want. Honestly, you can get everything from salmonella to listeria to food poisoning from just about ANY food out there. If you want to be *technical* about it, you're taking a chance anytime you eat anything these days.........even an apple. There is nothing so special about cold cuts that you have to stay away from them more than any other food. And as I am sure you've noticed, EVERY OB differs in their stance on them which tells me, they don't really have a clue and its not worth my effort to really worry about it.
I am 37, been eating cold cuts my ENTIRE life (weekly as an adult) and I have NEVER once gotten sick from cold cuts or even heard of anyone I know getting listeria from them. The likelihood of it is SO beyond slim that to me, it's not worth worrying about. So I eat them and I enjoy. And not steaming hot............I could vomit at the thought of steaming hot cold cuts.
You have to do what you feel comfortable with. I say........go enjoy your sandwich!!
