How many vacations do you take in a year?

Do you have kids? How long do you go away for? Is it a lot of weekends, extended weekends, visiting family, long vacations?

Besides your HM what was your favorite vacation and why? I am looking for some new vacation ideas and wondered what everyone else does.

For us, we have kids and our vacations have mainly been kid focused. We have gone away as a couple only once for a short weekend. I think I would like to try to have a vacation with just DH and myself later in the year or next year for a long weekend. Alternatively, I think I want to do a cruise out of Miami so we can get to more islands than what is offered from NY.

Since we've been married we plan about 3 week-long vacations per year. Typically 1 to Disney (2011 and 2012 were WDW this year Disneyland and SoCal). 1 to Sandals (2011 and 2012 St. Lucia, 2013 will be Jamaica) and 1 cruise (2012 was Disney Dream to the Bahamas, 2013 probably Disney Fantasy Eastern Caribbean or Norwegian Breakaway) and then we will sometimes do a weekend like last year we did the Woolverton Inn and North Carolina.

Out of all of the travel we've done in the past 2 years, the one thing we can't stop talking about believe it or not, is the Disney Cruise. Apparently a week in a sunset view suite with a personal butler can't beat a Disney Cruise for us. Sounds crazy, but it's true. We had a blast.

How many vacations do you take in a year?

We have two kids and try to do two long vacations (at least a week) a year, one or two long weekends visiting friends, and one long weekend alone a year depending on what events we have scheduled. We own a condo and have a timeshare so for the long vacations, we aren't paying additional for lodging - we pay mortgage and fees regardless...

Generally we take one 'big' vacation per year (away for approx. one week) and then split up the rest of our vacation time into four-day weekend getaways, road trips, that kind of thing. We travel to see Pearl Jam when they tour too.

Last year was an exception to that, because we went to visit DH's family in Bangladesh for a couple weeks, and at the end of that trip DH and I went to Istanbul for a few days. Bangladesh was awesome, but since it was a family trip I wouldn't really classify it as a 'vacation'. Istanbul was great. I love exploring new places with DH Also last year, my sister (who lives OOS) had a baby - our first time being an aunt and uncle - so whenever airfare was cheap, I'd book a flight for myself to visit her - sometimes DH would come too, sometimes not. And we did a 'baby's first Christmas' trip too, to visit her for a week.

Last year was a LOT of family stuff.

This year, I'm not sure what's in the cards. My mom has a milestone birthday coming up and I'd like to take her somewhere. Been checking out cruises out of FL for a week. We did a cruise once and had a blast...it's not my personal favorite, but you get a lot of bang for your buck and my mom LOVES cruising and after all, it is her birthday..

We will also be going to Ireland in the next year or so. And the Languedoc region of France.

We're a childfree family, so we don't do things that are kid-centered. As far as our favorite vacations, we loved Napa, Montreal and the Grand Canyon. We're hoping to make it back to the Grand Canyon within the next few years for a full week or so.

I'm hoping to make it to Red Rocks for a concert soon too...let's see what a certain band's tour schedule looks like..

its starting to look like every month. more long weekends but last month i went to mexico. this past weekend i did a long weekend to woodstock next month is park city utah for skiing.

i try to go away at least3-4 times a yr. no kids

We take about 3 big vacations per year (2 with the kids/1 without).

Then we take a bunch of driving weekend trips to places like Sesame Place, Great Wolf, etc.

Before we had DS we did two big vacations a year, usually 1 two week one and 1 one week one. We would also do maybe 2 or 3 weekend trips.

We are still adjusting now that we have DS and I'm not working. Last year we did Disney and one weekend away (plus one weekend at a wedding).

This year it's looking like one weekend trip and 1 one week vacation in the summer.

We always spend a week in Florida with the kids. Then we usually try for at least one more week long- last year was a week in Myrtle Beach and we also rented a house for a week on the CT shore. We also do a bunch of weekenders. Last year it was VT, our friends lake house in New Hampshire, and a Christmas-time trip to Newport. All of these were with our kids. Then I spent two weekends in Newport with the girls, one night in Foxwoods with the girls, and a weekend in the city with DH.
This year will probably be very similar to last year. We just got back from Woodloch Pines in the Poconos and this is going to be a new annual trip for us. We would actually like to go back in spring or summer so DH can golf. I'm going to Florida for a weekend for my sister's 40th bday next month. We're hoping to do a couples night at either Foxwoods or AC in April. And I would like to figure out a nice weekend trip for DH and I in the fall.

Typically we do one big vacation a year. We had two kids in the past 3 years, so that slowed us down a bit. We usually do a few shorter trips to places like PA, MD, CT, MA, etc. This past year we went to Disney. In years past, we have done 2 cruises (Alaska and Western Caribbean), Paris, Las Vegas (2x, once with DS and ILs) a week in New England, and San Francisco.

We tend to do 1 week long trip then a longer 2-3 week trip. I don't count visits to LI and Syracuse to visit families vacation! In the spring we went to California for a friends wedding then Puerto Vallerta to hang on the beach. In November we went to India for 3 weeks.

This is year is going to be a bit lower key. DH has a big birthday coming up so we may go away in July for that if I don't have a show I'm working on. We need to redo our kitchen so we may have forgo the "longer" vacation to do that.

We are childfree so our lives are very flexible.

A few. Last year we went to Clearwater/Tampa, Disney, Great Wolf Twice, Camping at Jellystone, Hershey and Lake Compounce. Most of these aren't week long things though, just a few days.

We take 2-3 vacations a year. At least a week long. One of them is going to the Midwest where we are from and our families still live. I don't consider that vacation though since its A LOT of work for us to see everyone with two, soon to be three, kids in tow. We end up traveling all over the state and trying to get the kids to sleep in different beds every night is a nightmare. We have started to convince grandparents to meet us elsewhere so we can have vacation and still see them. (Went to Aruba with my parents and MIL went with us to WDW last year).

About every other year, DH and I get a week to ourselves. We went to Venice and Paris one year and Couples Swept Away another year. We are due this year!

DH usually has a guys trip (long weekend) to Vegas or somewhere random for a bachelor party since most of his friends are scattered around the country. I try to, but it's been a while since we are all in baby making and baby rearing mode.

Since having kids, we hardly ever do short trips. Probably because we save up time for going home to see grandparents. We vowed to change that this year. We want to go camping and to a nearby beach.

My favorite vacations were Venice, Paris, Couples. With kids, WDW was awesome.

Usually 1. Most of the time it's just to FL to visit family.

One vacation every year to two years. We obviously wish it were more, but financially it is not possible.

We go to my parents condo in FL a couple times a year, usuallly right after Christmas for the New Yr and in the summer for a week or so bc I am off. Then we do a lot of weekend trips we have friends all over so we visit them or do our own thing. We also do one big trip a year this year it is Ireland for a family wedding.

We have one son 15m old, we didnt do a big trip last yr when he was an infant but we did do a bunch of FL trips starting at 4m lol

How many vacations do you take in a year?

1 tropical vacay, 1 US vacay, and 1 road trip a year-sometimes more if we can afford it

2 years ago we did 1 tropical vacay, a 10 day trip to cali, and then 3 road trips (i also did hawaii with my family)

last year we got married and bought a house, so it was only 1 of each type of trip

this year we've already booked jamaica for next month, and we're hoping to visit the midwest, philly, and possibly 1 other road trip

Usually 2-3 a year and some smaller weekend get-aways through the year.

Last year we went to the Dominican republic, Bermuda and Las Vegas.

the year before that Bermuda, Las Vegas and a week in Davis Park.

Oh and I forgot we have no children.

We usually do 2 to 3 big vacations and a few small weekend trips. Mostly with kids, although some without. Last year we did Disney, 2 different beach vacations, and a trip just the two of us to Napa.

Plus, we did weekend trips to Sesame Place, Boston and the Hampons (in laws house).

So far this year all we have planned is a Disney Cruise on the Fantasy. We are thinking of taking the kids skiing one weekend and doing a weekend trip to DC.

My favorite vacation was a cross country trip we did.

A week in disney every summer and the past couple years we have also enjoyed a winter cruise. I do feel like we spend a lot of money on vacationing though...

we go to Myrtle Beach every year. Before DS we would try to go on another trip on top of that, the past two years we went on a cruise as well. Now that we have DS though we will probably just stick with the one trip for a while...
