bfing/pumping question

Ds is 8 days old. In the hospital, he was ebf but topped off with a half ounce of formula til my milk came in. When we came home, he was ebf til monday when I switched to pumping. I know bfing him would help establish my supply better, but I dont have it in me. He would only latch on one side when I was bfing, even with help from the nurses. This caused my milk to come in unevenly. When I pump, I will get 3.5 oz from one side and 1.5 from the other. Anyway to stimulate the slower side? I'm trying to drink more water and keep pumping every 3 hours.

It's completely normal for one boob to produce more. My left produced double the amount of the right the whole 14 months of breastfeeding. If you are pumping just keep pumping, you are building up supply for over a month. Make sure you pump at least every 3 hours. If you plan on only pumping for a while you may need to rent a hospital grade pump.

Yes, it's normal for one side to produce more. My left side always did and my DD always preferred that. Oatmeal, mother's milk might help your supply.

Check out Kellymom.com

Nursing also helps and is more efficient than the pump.

Good luck!!

Re: bfing/pumping question

In the begining dd latched on better on my right compared to my left. No matter how much she nursed and I pumped I would always(still do) get more milk from my right breast. I pumped every two hours. Trying taking Fenugreek 3pills 3times a day and a serving of real oatmeal a day. I went from pumping 15oz a day to over 20oz

Good luck

my boob is the same, the left one produces more than the right. I usually feed DD from the right first then switch to the left if she is still hungry. Your baby will always drain your breast better than a pump and whenever I can I always have her BF instead of taking a bottle. It helps boost your supply.

The latching takes a little bit of time. it took DD one month finally have a good latch. I found out that she would pull away because my let down was too fast for her. Try to keep at it if you have it in you. It takes a lot of practice.
