Shortage of breast pumps
Just called my insurance co and was told as of May 1st, I'm due Apr 29th a duel electric pump is covered at 100% but to try and get my order in now because there is a breast pump shortage with medical supply companies. Went to look at edge park and genadyne and both websites don't have pumps available. Anyone know of any other medical supply stores that have them or are getting them in?

Re: Shortage of breast pumps
Check with your insurance company b/c you can't order from just anywhere. I can only order through Edgepark or Genadyne - both of which are out of pumps! And I'm having my baby in less than 3 weeks.
I'd just get on the waiting list at Edgepark now if I were you.

Shortage of breast pumps
I was just on the lucina care website (where my insurance company told me to go) - a division of Genadyne and didn't see they were out. I called the 1800# and was told I can't speak to a representative.
Which insurance do you have? I have Aetna

Ah, thanks. that stinks, the medela is the only one I have heard of.
I wonder if you buy from a store if you can still get full coverage from insurance...

Re: Shortage of breast pumps
For the ladies due in April or later, you shouldn't have a problem getting a pump. Just put yourself on the wait list now.
I'm having my baby in less than 3 weeks and spoke to my insurance company today. They are going to (hopefully) waive it for me so I can buy it retail but it's a lot of work. Much better to go through Edgepark if you can.

I heard the hygeia is great. Is that a dual pump because only a dual pump is covered by my insurance.

Re: Shortage of breast pumps
On the Edgepark website they have an option to submit your e-mail address and be notified when breast pumps become available. Is that he waiting list you guys are talking about? I also called edgepark to see if there was some other waiting list option, but when I selected the option for breast pumps, I got an automated message that said there is a nationwide shortage and to check the website, and then I was disconnected. I'm not due until the first week of April so it's not a rush, but I do want to make sure I get one somehow!

I have aetna as well and just went on the lucina site to order. It said the same thing for me, that medela was out of stock, but it still let me check the box so I did.
I was hoping that they would follow up with an email to let me know how much of a wait there is. I just placed the order so I'm giving it a little time before I call.
But has anyone tried this and gotten a response as to how long of a wait it is to get the pump?

I had called and asked this yesterday and was told no, they don't reimburse which I think is BS. When I have time or a day off I'll spend all day on the phone with them hoping to get the answer YES to that question

I tried ordering through there 2 weeks ago, at least, and never got any response. I tried calling and they won't answer the phones. I tried to email to inquire about my order and never got a response. So I emailed to cancel my order and never got a response. Basically, I wouldn't hold your breath for them. I'm trying to get a waiver through my insurance company to buy it in store and get reimbursed.

Shortage of breast pumps
You guys should definitely call Sunmed vs waiting for Edgepark or Genadyne. I was amazed at how quick the process took and that my pump should be here in a few weeks. Fingers crossed that it wasn't too good to be true!!

Re: Shortage of breast pumps
I actually called Edgepark at 8am this morning and had no problem ordering the Medela pump. For those of you that are worried about a shortage of pumps, please call them first. Also, although I'm not sure that the wait time will always be this way, but I didn't wait more than a few minutes to speak to someone. Good luck everyone!!

Shortage of breast pumps
To those who called Sunmed. I was told a few weeks ago that my best pump would arrive in 7-10 days. I thought it could maybe too good to be true since everyone was having trouble getting theirs, and naturally it was.
I called today to follow up, and was told they can't ship it to me until 6 weeks before my due date -- if that. I asked what happends if I deliver early and they couldn't guarantee I would have the pump in time.
What is everyone doing if their pump doesn't arrive by the time they deliver?
