Sad when people leave....

M 3.5 year old DS has really been getting upset when people leave. He doesn't like to say goodbye.
He's in a good mood playing and having fun with whoever and then when they have to go he won't say goodbye and cries.
He did it the other day with my IL's when they came to visit and today with friends and their kids. Just says, "No mommy!"
Gets sad and won't go by the door to wave or anything. Does it a lot to my parents too. They live around the corner and come all the time so them saying bye is nothing bc we sometimes see them later or the next day.
He's ok if we're out and everyone is going.
Just when leaving our house.
He does have some developmental delays, but with school has been thriving. Just this lately seems to set him off. Don't even know if it has to do with delays bc of working with his expressive language or just the age... Or both.

ehh...Jack did the same thing. he's not 3.5 yet, but i'd say somewhere at 2.5 -3yrs he was doing this if daddy left for work, when grandma left, etc.

he would cry if we were outside and i'd have to bring him in and leave his friends.

I think its par for the course.

I used to do that when I was little too. I still remember crying when my grandmother would leave, my mother says it was heartbreaking.
I turned out fine but it must be hard to watch your DC get so upset. DD is 18 months & cries when daddy leaves but I usually distract her after we say good bye & she's fine, I guess she's still young enough to get over it quickly.

I know it's just the age or phase, but he's fine when DH leaves for work or if I run out. He says goodbye to me when he goes to school and fine leaving. Just when people leave. People that come to visit then go. Not me or DH of if it's s schedule thing he's used to it like school and daddy leaving
