I really hate those people who check your receipt when you leave a store!

I was a Lowes last night buying a garbabe can.

There was ONLY 2 customers. me in my line and one other at the other register/other line. That's it!

Cashier opens trach can. OK. no problem I can understand! Pay, get receipt.

Walk 15 feet from exit door. Asked to show my receipt. OK, they want to make sure I did not steal anything.

The guy INSPECT my receipt for over 1 minute. WTH!!!!! I just bought 1 item. A trash can! What do you have to check???? You just saw me at the register. You looked at me paying. AGAIN.. WTH???? Then inspect every line of the receipt. As if checking time/day/what item. Even DH who was with the stroller and DS asked me what was going on. I said I did not know why it would take someone so long to look at a receipt.

Now, I know people steal but I really hate when I have to feel I am scrutized for buying a freaking trash can.

I hate the feeling that customers are criminals. I just don't like shopping like that. I feel I (and other customers) am are concidered always on the look out to steal something. Very uncomforable feeling!

I may write Lowe's a letter.

I know BJs has that policy of checking, but it's a store's security check.

Plus, after working at Target and having to unstff purses, bags, totes, etc to ensure that someone didn't put something small inside, I can see why a store checks receipts at the door with the merchandise purchased.

Other thann Costco I don't shop at stores that have this policy, annoyes the crap out of me as well

I don't mind them so much - it deters stealing which helps to keep prices down.

His job is to check the receipt at the door so even if he saw what was going on at the register, he still needs check at the door. But I dont know what he could be looking at for a full minute when you only have one item.

Last time I was at Costco, on my way out, while the girl was pretending to check my receipt, she said to the other girl,"You know, I only really check these if they buy less than like 5 things."

I hate when they do this too!


Also, I usually put my receipt away as soon as I get it...... then when I get to the door I have to go rummaging through my wallet to find it again..... It ends up holding up the line and then I feel bad so I let the people behind me go ahead....... which then means I have to join the back of the line that formed and it takes me longer to get out!


I don't mind when they look really quickly..... but sometimes they take their job WAY too seriously........ if you buy 25 items, they go counting to make sure you only have 25........ I find it so annoying, personally.


I know people steal...... but still.

I don't mind it. I understand they have a job to do. But it's annoying when it takes long. No reason for it.

One time at Costco the chick took FOREVER and I was about to get mad, but she drew a picture of a smilely face on it and showed it to DD, which I thought was kind of nice.

I hate this too... and I think legally they can't force you to show them the receipt.

When they come to ask to see the receipt, say "no thanks" and move on. If they want to detain you for suspect to shoplift, they better have a damm good reason.

I hate these stupid checks. Especially when the person checking is sooooooo slow and there are like 5-10 people waiting.

Costco and BJs should have clauses in the membership contracts that say they have to check your items at exit. Nothing you can do there as you agreed to it when you joined.

But places like Best Buy, Lowes, etc. Very annoying!

That guy must have been bored. Usually at Home Depot they are so nusy they take it & mark it, without really looking.

One of the libraries near me does this, but the security guard is usully talking to someone or reading the paper, so if you don't make eye cotnact, he doesn't bother.

They didn't CHECK anything! They just saw a receipt and made a big line through it to what, pretend you looked at it? What's the point of THAT??

I told DH that if I wasnt such a whimp, I'd throw something into the cart I didnt pay for, like a book or something, and when they wave me through, throw the book at them and say "See...I knew you guys werent REALLY checking."

are you in a high theft area? i've been to lowes a few times by my house (granted in pA) but they dont check receipts. sams, bj's, costco do...but the targets, walmarts and home depot's dont seem to.

it could be that the stores that have higher thefts make sure they do this. it is a pain in the arse..and if you had one item..theres no need to stand there and inspect every little line on the receipt.

my DH used to work for Toys R Us years ago..and you wouldnt believe the things people come up with the steal things.
