Overweight and Pregnant

^^^^ That's me.

Has anyone asked to see a nutritionist while pregnant.

I had just started dieting and was planning to start the Couch to 5K and exsercising to lose the weight from my first 2 when I found out I'm pregnant again.

I see the doc this afternoon for my first appointment. I'm so embarrassed to step on the scale. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Overweight and Pregnant

Don't be embarrassed to step on the scale. I was working out like crazy before I got pregnant, and was still overweight after the first two kids. I lost a lot of weight before getting pregnant this time.

I had a doctor tell me that I'd need to watch my weight etc, and I said right back to them, you know, I've lost all this weight already, I'll do everything possible to do my best during the pregnancy. (I especially love it when they are overweight themselves.)

You know what? I already gained that weight back that I lost. Oh well, I'll lose it again.

Just do your best and try not to harp on it. You can't help what you gain unless you're eating a box of cookies each night. Eat as best you can, drink enough water and you'll be fine.

Re: Overweight and Pregnant

I agree with PP, don't be embarrassed. I was just starting a new nutrition plan when I got pregnant too. I lost 10lbs in the first month of pregnancy because I continued to eat mostly protein and vegetables. But I started to let the number creep back up and now at 20 weeks I am back at my starting weight. I actually did ask to see a nutritionist and they gave me a referral. I ended up not following through with it, but it is an option. My SIL was significantly overweight when she was pregnant with both of my nieces. she lost weight with both. 45lbs with the last one!! It's just important to frame it as eating healthy for the baby and not dieting to lose weight. My SIL has been continually reminding me of this!!! Chat Icon

I am literally in the exact same boat as you. I lost about 10lbs before I got pregnant, was going to start the C25K, and bam, BFP! I am watching what I am eating, I am 14 weeks, I've lost 3lbs, but the dr was okay with it, it's more that I stopped drinking soda and eating more healthy. I make my husband turn his head when I get on the scale :) I weigh as much as I did 9 months preggo with my DD, embarrassing, but I plan on kicking butt to get back in gear after this baby is born!!

You should definitely see a nutritionist when pregnant. That is different than going on Weight Watchers or something. She'll advise you on what healthy food to eat. I have a friend who is obese and she started seeing a nutritionist while pregnant and only gained 17 pounds. That means she was probably eating less calories than before pregnancy. She had no complications or anything. Good luck!

do not be. they are not phased by my weight (though I almost die everytime i step on the scale).

i feared pregnancy both times, SO concerned about weight gain but with #2 at almost 38w, I am up a total of 9lbs. I will take it!

with #1, I gained 16 total.

Just make smart decisions and stay active. i really feel like your body will just know what to do in the weight dept.

Re: Overweight and Pregnant

I am overweight and always had poor eating habbits. The second I got pregnant I changed my diet and now I am 27wks and am down 35lbs. My doctor said as long as I am eating healhy and eating my required calories there is no reason that I cannot continue to lose weight throughout the remainder of the pregnancy.
