fisher price rock n play

Just saw this online - mold being found after use and that in rare cases it causes hives, coughing etc
the product is NOT being pulled from stores though.

we just got one as a shower gift...should i just return it and not bother to worry about it or keep it and try to remember to keep cleaning it and checking it for mold?? I am sure there is mold everywhere (in walls of houses etc) just not that close to the babys head. i dont want to be paranoid mom but i also dont know if its worth worrying.

wwyd?

edit - to say i just saw a thread on the parenting board...apparently the mold is not on the cover that gets washed...its on part of it that you cannot wash. a few parents on here posted that is has happened to theirs...

it looks like it is saying it is only recalling units that have mold and the mold is not there when its packaged, it develops over time when it is being used.

im confused too which is why i dont know if i want to bother keeping it or not!

IMO you are being a paranoid mom! Mold will grow on any surface that gets wet and isn't properly cleaned. Your baby will spit up and have diaper leaks while in the rock n play. If you don't wash it after DC spits up, it could grow mold. Wash it and you should be fine. We had to wash the cover all the time and we never had a mold problem.

Yeah, it can happen if you don't wash it but I think that's the case for pretty much anything with a cloth cover - in the right conditions, mold can grow. Just be mindful of it when the baby spits up or diaper leaks.

this annoys me. parents are not responsible and do not clean it (infants spit up, puke, diapers leak etc) and then they go and sue.

anything will grow mold if it is left damp.

Agreed! This is like the bumbo and nap nanny recalls because of stupid and negligent parents. Be responsible and you won't have these problems Chat Icon

I agree - it's like the other recalls for things when really it's people leaving their kids in products unsupervised.

Agree with most posters. Parents need to clean up after their babies.. IMO this has been one of the best products my DD used. I always put an extra blanket on it and inspects all her items a few times a week when born. Chat Icon With Chat Icon I will purchase another rock and play and see if LO likes it.

i added a link in the original post...
parents on these boards have a thread going about this too...
they are saying that the mold is NOT growing where the cloth can be washed...its a part that you cannot clean apparently....

it can be cleaned. any surface can be wiped down with a disinfectant spray, lysol wipes etc. you can't throw it in the washer - doesn't mean it can't be cleaned (like many fabrics that interact with infants (strollers, carseats etc)
