Re: Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
We did not do it and either did our friend. We decided that it was not accurate enough for us to make a decision if things weren't perfect. Unless they can tell me 100% that the baby has a birth defect that will cause them not to survive birth, then i will not terminate a pregnancy. I know a lot of people who get false positives. I did however do the 16 week bloodwork to rule out other complications.

Re: Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
i refused it all of my pregnancies after my first loss. My reasoning was that no matter what I was not terminating the pregnancy. So knowing whether there was something wrong or not did not concern me. There are way too many false positives. From my experience, they can tell alot of things from the sonogram and if they see something of concern you can have an amnio that tells you everything.

Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
I didn't. I just did the Quad screening and when I asked my doc about the NT scan, he suggested an amnio to be sure everything was ok. I didn't do that either.

Re: Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
I did it but will not do it for any other kids.... There were too many things that came up and drove me crazy only to find out it was nothing.... It's not worth my stress

Re: Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
I opted out for DS because I felt I would get a false positive. I did for dc only because we got one soon pic and dc looked like an alien and I wanted another pic. We are also going to do the additional screening.

Re: Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
I have this in 2 weeks and I'm concerned based off the comments on here that so many ladies got false positives. It makes sense to do it based on my age but I don't want any unnecessary stress. I guess I will just take it as it comes and deal accordingly.
For all you BTDT, what is next in terms of testing, timeline, etc?

Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
I didn't but that's bc my midwife failed to mention it to me until my 13 week appointment. Kind of missed the time frame there, hence why we're no longer with that practice.

Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
Had I known I had a choice I would have opted out. Starting with the NT scan I had almost 10 weeks of testing and worrying and waiting for results... I was seriously a walking zombie. The NT results led to a CVS and the results from that led to an Amnio... so if we have a second child some day I'm opting out of the NT and will just do an Amnio (because of my age and the amnio being more conclusive).

Same , I wish I hadn't . It caused me a lot of unwanted stress. I'm 26 my results came back 1:575 for downs . I also wish I didn't do the 20 week scam as well, they found a slight spot on the bowel and we now have sonos every 3 weeks to monitor the baby. Hth.

I don't think the 20 week scan is voluntary, I think everyone gets that one...it's the scan my doctor calls the only true sonogram. Sorry you got worrisome results, I'm sure everything is fine and the scans are a good thing! My SIL had many scans due to GD and they found a tumor on my niece. If they hadn't of found it while she was in utero they probably wouldn't have found it for years, and it would have been too late. My niece is now a happy healthy cancer free 9 month old, all thanks to a sonogram tech going the extra mile!!!

Thank you I do think the scans are important , I just feel sometimes they are over cautious . Glad your niece is healthy . Thank you for your well wishes

Re: Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
I skipped it because I was getting an amnio so my Dr said it was pointless to do that test when the amnio would be telling me with 100% certanity if there were any issues.

Re: Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
Is this the first 12 week test? If yes, than we opted to NOT do it with dd 1. Then we had a few things show up on her 20 week sono and b/c we didn't do it they couldn't give us definitive answers and numbers just some ranges that could possibly be. So they went by our age and family history and saying that b/c of that stuff we had 1 in 500 (total guess I can't remember exact) for downs, 1 in whatever for another disease. etc. I wish I had done it. It was just that we knew of the false positives and stuff.
This time we opted to do to rule out anything that could come up later on and my dr. said this is more accurate b/c its blood and sono not just the sono.

Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
My sister didn't do it because her insurance didn't cover it. I did it because my insurance covered it and I wanted to see the baby! It wouldn't have affected my decision -- I was 100% keeping the baby!

Re: Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
The only reason I have done it and will do it again is to know if there is a reason to do more testing. I only want to know if there are any issues so that I can have the best team of doctors ready to give my baby any treatment they might need immediately. I would deliver in certain hospitals and have certain specialists ready if I knew there were certain issues.

I really only did it to see the baby and for this. I could never terminate a pregnancy unless there was some life threatening reason.

Re: Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
I did the NT scan but I didn't do the 16 week testing. We got good results at the NT scan and felt like our outcome wouldnt change anything so we skipped the testing.
I definitely understand the reasons for doing it or skipping it!

Did anyone NOT do the NT scan?
I didn't do the NT scan or any blood tests for chromosomal abnormaliies. I also didn't do an amnio despite being 37. Even if it was Down's I would terminate and it's not like they can given me a pill and make it go away. Maybe I'll feel different if it could detect with some certainity a treatable disease
