lamaze
Some of my friends say definitely do lamaze and others say its a waste of money. I spoke to my doctor and he said although it is not necessary it can be helpful to take the class. Did you take a class? if so, was it work it?

Re: lamaze
i took a labor and delivery class that included lamaze. It was helpful and informative but I didn't really care for or use much of the lamaze portion. I was induced so I knew I was getting the epidural.

Re: lamaze
I took a hospital class that included Lamaze. I couldn't take it seriously and thought it was a waste. The teacher even said as much as you can practice when labor comes just breath however you are comfortable.

Pointless. I took the hospital class. During delivery the nurses will walk you through everything. I did not need to waste an entire Saturday.

Re: lamaze
I took the one day class with DH and I was so happy I did, it was more than just lamaze......that was a small part of the day. They also went over what to expect in Labor and Delivery, everything related to a C-section, drugs and medications used during labor and recovery, and we had the hospital tour. It was actually a really fun and informative day and made everything seem so much more real, it was exciting. I recommend it!

This! Our class also included care of the baby - so it showed us breastfeeding techniques, how to diaper and bathe the baby, reviewed how often the baby should eat, when to call the pediatrician, etc. I think it just helped to put our minds at ease.

Re: lamaze
we did a 3 week class that was the first three weeks in December (due 2/8)...didnt want to try the january session just in case baby came early.
We have a breast feeding class next week...they suggest taking it as close to your due date as possible (but its only offered once a month so we are taking it now)

Me too. It was a complete waste of time. Wish I didn't even bother. It was a 6 week class, maybe 2 hours a night, and it was so boring & useless. I skipped the last two classes cause I just couldn't sit my super pregnant butt for four more hours listening to long winded explanations of every part of delivery.
I had a natural delivery with no epidural, and the classes didn't help at all. You pretty much just do what you have to do to get through labor (breathe however helps, get in whatever position helps), plus the nurses tell you when to push and how to push (like you are pooping), etc. My classes didn't do anything re: breastfeeding or child care. That would have been nice!

Re: lamaze
our dr's office offered a 6 hour childbirth class that included lamaze, what to expect at delivery, etc. I really did not feel that we needed this so we did not do it. I have had enough close friends and family tell me all their details... I think I am as ready as I am gonna be.
We also did not do the tour, I still don't really understand that. I will find my way to the hospital and they will tell me where to go when I get there, its not like we are moving from floor to floor, etc!

Ours was just 2 weeks (all day Saturdays) and we took it when I was 34/35w. When you register, they will tell you when you should take it. For us, it was recommended that we complete the class at least 4 weeks before my due date. Everyone in my class had Feb and Mar due dates and my class just ended yesterday.

I took a 1 day class this past Saturday. While I enjoyed the lamaze portion, I thought the rest of it was dry. The ladies on this board are more entertaining to listen to and they know just as much!!! I did enjoy the hospital tour too and we got to see a new baby! I was annoyed because the website said lunch was served, but it definitely wasn't and the woman kept reading us the power point like we couldn't do it on our own. She was very dry!

I signed up through my OB office. Took the class around 32-33 weeks.

The nurse told me how to push in 2 min and coached me through everything. No need for a whole big class IMO

I didn't feel the need to spend $375 on a class. I figured the nurses will coach us and even the OB said so. I'll probably google a video and call it a day.
