Faint line this morning, nothing this afternoon...
I am about 14DPO and 8 days late with AF. I used an OPK last month that showed a surge only a week before AF should have come (which I'm assuming means very short Luteal Phase). We tried anyway and AF never came. I started taking HPT’s a few days ago and all negative. Even though I was days passed my missed period, it wasn't very long since ovulation. So I kept testing and then this morning (about 14dpo) I tested first thing, using First Response, I saw a faint pink line.
Excited but nervous…I decided to test again around 1:30 and got no line. I am so confused. I thought any sign of a line was a good sign and now it went away! Not sure if it was too diluted to pick up on it? Only had about 2.5 hr between both tries. Could that happen??

I would hold your urine or test again tomorrow with FMU. You most likely i diluted your the hcg hormone in your urine. I did that, myself i took tests in the morning and got faint lines, and also confirmed on a digital, and then that afternoon i did a dig again and FMER and both were neg. i waited until the morning and tested again, and everyhthing was fine.

Thanks! I'm trying my best not to get excited or discouraged too fast. I think seeing that I ovulate so late in my cycle really threw me off, made me nervous about a whole new set of issues I never thought about. I'll try to be patient and retest tomorrow morning...

What type of OPKs were you using?
First, if you saw a + a week before AF, then you would have actually Oed only about 5 days before AF. This is more than just a short luteal phase. In fact, only a 6 or 7 day LP would not give your embryo enough time to implant since implantation takes about 6 days. If your days are accurate, that would also be when AF starts.
My guess is that you read your OPKs wrong.
As for the pregnancy test, you should try to wait at least 3 hours (4 would be ideal) and not drink a lot of water before you test. But, at 14dpo, you should be able to get a pretty good line, even on only 2.5 hours.

The OPK's were Clearblue Digital...I actually got a smiley face on CD 7...since I used FMU I was nervous it was too concentrated so I kept testing all month. I didn't get another smiley face until day 20. Kept testing (out of curiousity) and got 2 more smiley's the next two days. So I don't know if that first smiley was a fluke on day 7 and the ones at the end of the month were more accurate.

i know few people that were pregnant and were sure they ovulated, and keep testing and kept getting smiley but they were actually pregnant, i think that can happen if im not mistaken.

I think you may have read the OPK incorrectly. That would have been an extremely short luteal phase and not enough time for the embryo to fertilize and implant. Test with FRER test with FMU. Good Luck!

I would say try peeing in a cup and letting it sit for a couple minutes rather than holding it in the stream. When I got pg over the summer I had the same thing- a line, then no line, then no line at first then it would appear after 10-20 minutes... I think I wasn't getting it soaked enough. Then when I tried peeing in a cup and putting the stick in the cup, I got BFPs every time. Unfortunately I had a MC but I was definitely pregnant. But now whenever I take any kind of pee-test (pregnant or ovulation) I always do the cup method. GOOD LUCK!! Fingers crossed for you =)

Well... AF showed this morning. I was kind of relieved since I'm hoping me ovulating so late in my cycle was just a fluke. Thanks for all the advice!,

But it sounds like you have a very normal luteal phase, assuming the OPK was correct.
