I'm looking for something "safer" that gets the job done for a reasonable price. I normally use Tide and love it but I don't like this for a newborn. With DD we used the Tide Free and Clear (or whatever it's called) but then heard it still has awful chemicals in it.
Does anyone use a brand that they love but isn't super expensive. DH thinks it's crazy to use green products so I will only get him on board if it's about the same price as other detergents. TIA!
Unfortunately, many many products that we find in in the cleaning aisle have those awful chemicals. I too used free and clear when DD was born. After research found those too were not good. Also, many products that are marketed as "green" aren't necessarily good either. Here is a great website to look up cleaning product info.
EWG - Cleaning Products
I use something called Eco Nuts now. Very interesting but effective way to clean your clothes. The big box costs $35 and does about 360 loads. So about a year depending on how often you do laundry. I got them on babysteals.com for about $25.

All free and clear. Does the job well and much cheaper than tide or dreft.
This is what we use too.

We use Dreft (as I did with my older DD), but we use All Free & Clear for our own stuff. Seeing how many of you use All F&C for your babies, I think I'll make this our last (only) bottle of Dreft and switch to All F&C for the baby, too!
