moms of kids around 2 y o....
Does your child show a definite preference for one set of grandparents??
DS is almost 26 months, and we adopted him from Korea in August. So its been 4 months of bonding all around... BUT he definitely seems to prefer my ILs over my parents and its killing me  
hes spent pretty equal time with both of them i think. My ILs live 5 hours away, so they come about once a month or so and stay for 3 nights. My parents are about 2 hours away, so hes had shorter but more frequent visits with them. They are all great with him, and its the first grandchild on both sides.
My ILs are here now and this morning when DS woke up and I changed him/dressed him we walked into the living room, and he saw they were here and ran right to them, smiling and laughing.
He doesn't do that with my parents We did leave him with my parents on Thanksgiving night for a couple hours to go see a movie with my sister and BIL- so maybe thats it?? he still associates my parents with us leaving?
I'm sure he'll come around eventually... but it hurts that he doesn't seem to like my parents as much

DS picked my sisters husband as a favorite.
I don't know why.
He will go to him and ask him for things over even me.
Just a phase. Let it go.

I think it's normal, at least for us it is. DD prefers my sister to anyone else in the family and she sees her the least. DS went back and forth between favoring my parents and my ILs. It doesn't mean anything except that your ILs are providing some perceived fun or comfort that can't really be explained by a 2 yr old. 
ETA: just wait till he starts preferring you over DH, or vice versa - that's when the real fun starts

DS is 19 months and his favorite person is by far my best friend. He will ignore everyone when she comes over. As far as grandparents go, out of all 4 of them, my mom is the one he seems to favor, for now.

its probably just a phase. DD goes through phases where she likes/hates people more than others. my BIL is home from college right now and she's obsessed with him. meanwhile SIL is also home from college and she can take her or leave her.
i do find for the most part my DD (shes 19.5m) tends to gravitate towards people who are more maternal. pardon the comparison but its almost like a puppy - if you are scared of them or hesitant, they are less likely to gravitate towards you. i find my DD is similar. she's more loving to those who are more open and loving. thats not say that your parents are less loving, but everyone gives different vibes and kids pick up on that stuff more than we know. despite that im sure its just a phase if equal time is spent with both sets of parents.

Yup, my both boys favor my mom & dad over my inlaws & what's funny is my family lives 450 miles away. They see them.in person every 6-8 weeks but do speak with them via Skype daily.
In our case, I.think they favor my parents bc on more then one occasion, my boys have stayed with my parents without us tor 5+ days. Plus I also believe they just mesh with their personality better. My ILs tend to be high strung & also older so their agility is not like my parents & my boys are extremely ACTIVE.

My DS favors my family over DH's, but that's only bc he sees them pretty much everyday. We only see my inlaws once every 1-2 weeks.

All of my children favor my parents over my ILs. I think the OP hit the nail on the head, my parents are way more open and loving with my kids. Not that my ILs are not, but my parents are just more the mushy lovey type, whereas my ILs....not as much.

no not really but he sees them all pretty much equally and regularly.
in the beginning (around 12-18 months) he did seem to gravitate more towards my mom but I think that was because she was the least overpowering of all.
