Hawaii (the Big Island)
DH and I went to Hawaii for our honeymoon..we did 1 night in Oahu (just for Pearl Harbor), 6 nights in Kauai and 6 nights in Maui. We loved it.
Now, we are thinking of going back and doing 3 nights in Maui and 6 nights on the Big Island. How does that sound to everyone? Or should we just do the Big Island? We loved Maui and are worried that if the Big Island doesn't measure up, we will regret that we didn't spend any time in Maui. Any thoughts?

Hawaii (the Big Island)
IMO the big island is good for the active volcano which is a day trip. I wouldn't do more than 2 days there. Spend more time in maui

Re: Hawaii (the Big Island)
DH and I had the same dilemma. We been to Oahu, Kauai and Maui several times. Our last trip to Maui was in September of 2011. We have the opportinity to go again in May of 2013. This trip we are going to the Big Island for 5 days and Maui for 8.
We were debating going to Kauai instead of the Big Island but decided to go somewhere we've never been.

I totally agree with this. We did Maui and the Big Island for our honeymoon in 2007. After doing Volcano National Park and Mauna Kea I was bored.

The Big Island is very different from Maui. If Maui is your favorite island, I'd definitely spend a shorter time on the Big Islamd and more time on Maui. The Big Island was cool to explore the volcanoes and climbto the top but it's no a beachy destination.

What area did you stay in? We are staying at the Fairmont on the Kahola coast, and my travel agent said it has a great beach with fantastic snorkeling. I'm getting nervous.

Re: Hawaii (the Big Island)
I've never been to Maui, but we did spend a week on the Big Island years ago. There was no shortage of things for us to do, but we enjoy driving around and exploring.
We did deep sea fishing, horseback riding in Waimea Valley, snorkeling, helicopter ride over the volcanoes.
