Returning gifts question
How do you handle it when your child receives a gift that you'd like to return and you weren't given a receipt? Would you ask the person who gave the gift for the receipt? There are two things that I'd like to return. One toy that she already has and one is a toy that is too babyish for her. Is it rude to ask for the receipt? Should I just try and return it without the receipt?

Re: Returning gifts question
I would not ask for a receipt.
I did a lot of exchanging when my son was a baby. Good thing is many stores carry the same items. Buy Buy Baby gives you back full price normally without a receipt. I would start there.

Re: Returning gifts question
Rude to ask for the reciept unless it's a parent maybe, IMO. You try to return it without or you are stuck with two IMO.
If they wanted you to be able to return it, odds are they would have provided a gift receipt.

Returning gifts question
i would try and return it without a receipt. If that doesn't work you have 2 for when one breaks!
Maybe you can give it to someone that doesn't have that toy?

Re: Returning gifts question
I think it's rude to ask for a receipt. I would just take it back to a store that carries it, and get store credit.

Returning gifts question
Buy Buy Baby takes back anything. If they sell it there, I'd try that.

Re: Returning gifts question
Rude to ask - I do 3 things -
1. Try to return w/o the recepit 2. Regift IF it's something that I would have bought myself as a gift anyway I NEVER regift something that I 'don't like' ...... 3. Put it in the closet for next year's Toys for Tots donation

Re: Returning gifts question
When I don't give a gift receipt it means I got that item on extra super duper clearance and I don't want the recipient returning it to find out I only spent $4.02, lol.
I would try and exchange it, even for a store credit, somewhere that carries the item as pps have said. BBB has a pretty loose return policy.

Re: Returning gifts question
I've taped receipts to boxes... Even with prices on them for this reason. Sometimes stores don't give gift receipts when you purchase on line stuff all together... So if it's someone close, just ask where they got it from.
If I get a gift and I can't do that, I save it for regifting!

Re: Returning gifts question
i would just try to return it. I dont usually ask for receipts. The only person i'd feel comfortable enough to ask for the receipt is my mom or DH's mom. If we get something that is duplicate we tell them to keep it at their house for when our LO's come over, or we get the receipt and exchange it.

Re: Returning gifts question
Thanks everyone.
One of the gifts is from family and one is from her godmother, so both are people who are close to us. I just hate returning things to TRU without receipts- they are such PITAs.
I rarely give receipts with my gifts, just because I don't think of it, but I would rather someone ask me if I had one if they needed to return something, rather than regifting/donating it. If I didn't want them to see what I paid for something, I would just say I didn't have it.

Re: Returning gifts question
Unless it was my parents I wouldn't ask for a receipt. I'd exchange to TRU or somewhere.

Re: Returning gifts question
i'm in the same situation. DH's aunt got DS a bunch of clothes he can't wear. no gift receipt. i'm not going to ask where she got it so instead i'm going to try to go to the store (i believe the brand is sold at target) and hope they will take it for store credit.
