Infant Temper Tantrums
DS is 8 months old. He's a very happy, smiley baby. He's very active, crawling, pulling to a stand, starting to cruise on furniture. But the second he doesn't get his way he full on FLIPS OUT. Throws his head back, throws himself to the floor and screams. I just re-direct, try to distract him. I don't let him get his way (usually this is over me not letting him climb on the tv, chase the cat, etc. - things that are safety issues).
I'm a little concerned because he's in daycare and he's getting a little of a reputation for having meltdowns. I guess I'm just looking for some guidance. I know all kids go through this at some point but it seems very early to me. Is there something I should be doing differently with him? Or is this normal behavior?

Re: Infant Temper Tantrums
Sounds like you are doing the right thing!! Infants cannot really be "disciplined" other than to redirect, or to let him experience natural consequences (e.g. throwing food off of the highchair= dinner time is over). I think this is a totally natural stage, but not easy on mom!! GL!

Completely normal and I do the same thing. Distract him with sow thing else or I make sure he's safe and won't hurt himself and I let him have his tantrum

Em was like that at that age too and we just used distraction. she still flips out when she doesn't get what she wants (what toddler doesn't) but its usually short lived. distraction still works for us now at 19m ( )

DD is 17 months and I have found over time that if I try to distract her, it actually makes it worse. She always calms down much better if I just ignore her behavior and move on to something else. But if distraction is working for you, keep going with it. The tantrums are perfectly normal.

Infant Temper Tantrums
Thank you for posting this. My DD is almost 9 months and has recently begun having these tantrums when she doesn't get her way or when something is taken away. I was getting upset but it seems from what you ladies are saying that it's something very normal at this age.
