Can you buy airline ticket for a gift?
I want to buy my mom a plane ticket to us, but dont have a specific date. I want her to choose, but I know if I don't give it, she'll say no & say she can drive down to see me.
What are my options?

get an airline gift card. I believe all airlines have them. I know Southwest sells them in Stop & Shop, but the others I believe are only on the airline's website.
I got my mom an American Airlines one a few years ago when she was planning a trip to Paris.
My sisters and I got a Jet Blue one for my aunt for a birthday gift so she can come and up and visit my mom.

I think you can buy an open ticket but I wouldn't bc it would be very expensive. I would go with a gift card but that is tough bc if one line is cheaper than another you are stuck. Can you just tell her you are getting it no if, ands or buts and to give you dates to buy it or you will pick for her.

Yes open tickets are really expensive - and then you have to pay the fare difference on top of the cost of the fare. I would do an airline gift card.

What about an AmEx or Visa gift card with the understanding that's what it is to be used for? That way you're not tied to one carrier in case another has a fabulous price.

So I decided to tell her my intentions. Now to find a flight from Islip to NC. Is islip still that small that I can't seem to find a reasonable flight?!

Seriously...between Islip being small. And my GSO airport is small. You either pay $100+ more, or I have to drive 1hr plus to Raleigh or Charlotte, & it's not direct anyway.

We drive to Raleigh or Charlotte for any large trip (like cross country or international) for that very reason. Then there's paying for parking!

Islip doesn't really have much outside of southwest. Us air is there but they are all connections in Philly.
