Has anyone ever heard of this?
They are paving our street today and DH just called me and said that they are ripping all the mailboxes out of the ground I have never heard of that before...is that normal? Will they put them back? Should I call the post office or the town?

I wouldn't be surprised. The Town usually owns the first 5ft of your property. And since we all put our mailboxes at the curb I would think they can rip them up. But I would also think they would out them back in.

While this is true, I don't understand why they are ripping out the mailboxes. I had my street repaved last month and not a single mailbox was touched. I would call both the town and the post office and find out what's going on.

When they did my parents' street they ripped a good 4 ft. of sod out of their front lawn.  But it was replaced.
I would call the town hall to find out what their intentions are for your mailboxes.
