Sandy Related Repairs - Contractors
Has anyone been given estimates & quotes by General Contractors for Sandy related repairs on their house?
Please FM me. We are so inexperienced with all of this, and feel a bit shaken by the estimates given to us by the GC we hired. It's been hard getting anyone else to show up for estimates these days, so we'd like to hear from other families who are getting the same type of work done. Make sure we're not being taken advantage of.
TIA!

Re: Sandy Related Repairs - Contractors
DH is a licensed contractor for LI/NYC and if you want to FM me the type of work you are looking for, I can run the #s by him to find out what is realistic.
He has told me that some companies charge much more especially knowing that a lot of people have insurance money coming in.
Sadly, some prices are not too unrealistic though. We were lucky because we got our boiler, plus installment by our plumber friend for about 1/2 of what it would cost for a company to do it.
Adding demo and labor for major home renovations, plus having multiple contractors having to come in (i.e. plumber, electrician, carpenter, masonry) does add up fairly quickly, especially if you want the work done right.

Great. He's actually on a job now (been bombarded with rip outs since the storm) but I will definitely get back to you tomorrow or Friday.
Hang in there.

My inlaws got 4 different quotes to redo their roof and rebuild part of their house that was damaged when a tree fell. The quotes varied from $26k - $45k. They are going with the cheapest quote because the insurance is only agreeing to pay about $20k. HTH!
