insurance letter
A few of my friends have mentioned a letter from their insurance companies telling them that they are planned for delivery at the hospital and what is covered. I have not received this letter....should I be worried?

I think you have to register with the hospital first. I only got my paperwork to do that at my last appointment at 28w.

Re: insurance letter
im almost 31 weeks and never got that letter. i wouldnt worry, my guess is all insurance companies are different. just speak to your doctor or call up and confirm that the hospital you plan to deliver at is covered

Re: insurance letter
That is what I figured, but since two friend with two different insurance companies go the letter I got worried. One is at the same doctors office and hospital as me and is due the same month...so I got confused. I'm sure you are all right, no need to worry. I was given paperwork to register with South Nassau at my first visit, but I haven't done it.
I was warned that my friend who gave birth at South Nassau was given a bil for $2000 for the NICU doctor because he wasn't covered....So annoying!!! If the doctor is practicing in the hospital that you are covered in than they should be covered as well!!! She had the same issue with an anesthesiologist prior so she found out before about the anesthesiologist which was covered.

I got a letter from my insurance company the other day (I am 18w) but I think it was triggered by me scheduling my level 2 at the hospital. I think you will get it when you register with the hopsital.

Re: insurance letter
I got the letter, but that is bc my doctor informed the insurance company after my first appointment. Technically, I am responsible for telling my insurance company, my doctor just did me a favor before I got the chance to.
Definitely call and let them know. They might already know, but it is your responsibility to let them know if they don't.

I have UHC and haven't gotten a letter yet (29w). If your doctor pre-registers you that will trigger it like a PP said. Some carriers may require that while other won't. If you are concerned just give them a call and see what their timeline is... I won't even get the paperwork to register until my next appointment at 30 weeks and I guess I will get it after that.
As for the anethesiologist many don't take insurance at all, which stinks but not much you can do... Just take a look to see if your insurance has a deductible our out of pocket max. That will give you an idea what you could be looking at spending until you get the letter from your carrier. HTH!

Nope I haven't received a letter like that either. Maybe it depends on the insurance company?

For real? Any idea how much they charge? Under my insurance I am supposed to just have a $500 hospital co-pay. But for out of network charges I have to pay 20%. So i'll get a seperate bill if I decide to get an epidural? That's so crazy it's not covered?

I'm not 100%, the epidural may be covered under the "delivery" but I just know from dealing with people going through medical claims at work and when I had surgery a few years back the anethesiologist did not take insurance I paid that separately. That was for a 12 hour surgery that I was knocked out for so it's totally different. Someone who has delivered before would know better if the epidural is covered as part of the delivery. I just deal with employees medical claims when they have an issue/question about something.

Re: insurance letter
I got a letter a few weeks after my pregnancy was confirmed. I assumed my ob's office sent the info to the insurance co. Maybe check with your doctor regarding the process?

Re: insurance letter
I never received a letter. I was registered at the hospital because I had been to l&d twice before but never got a scheduled c date. (They didn't expect me to make it to 38 weeks)
