Just told my boss
I am only 8 weeks, but my boss is the type of guy that does not like surprises, so I knew I would have to tell him sooner rather than later. Boy was I right, he was so not happy. He just said my name, and then said as soon as Holidays are over, I have to start training one of the other guys on my team. Basically I am the only person on my team who does what I do, I told him I had no problems working from home, but I could tell he was so not thrilled. Frustrating because he's such a nice guy, but he's a hermit, hates parties, doesn't even eat with his family, even though he lives on the floor above him!! I know it's more about who's gonna take over for me while I am out, but I am still surprised by his reaction.

That is pretty sh!tty of him. Even if he thinks this means it's going to be more work for him/your department he could have mustered up a BIT of enthusiasm for you. It;s not like you're going to be out FOREVER!

It really through me for a loop, I am not even sure what happened, lol. He's usually so understanding, like if the kids are sick and we are running late, sooo cool about it. I am assuming it's because I am the go to person for him, and I get that, but it just definitely hit me the wrong way.

this is kind of the same reaction i got from my boss. not enthusiasm, no congrats, nothing. and i've worked for him for 10 years

This is why I haven't told my big boss! I'm so nervous about it! My supervisor was awesome and gave me a big hug, but the clinical director is going to flip! Like she never had kids, haha! Anyway I plan to tell her next week at the Christmas party, that way she is happy, maybe a little liquored up....much easier that way!

I know he's not happy at all, and the stuff I do is all technical stuff, so training someone is going to suck!! And the people are my team just aren't there to learn the stuff.
I think also he just didn't know how to handle it. I am the first person on his direct team in a loooong time to get pregnant.
What really pisses me off, is my co-worker, is on medical leave for a month because she got a boob job and a tummy tuck, they don't know thats why she's off, but I do, and it just pissing me off that he was all sympathetic towards her, but I have to feel guilty about having a baby! I don't think so. I wouldn't change a thing, I can not wait to have this baby and he is just going to have to deal, I've just never dealt with such a poor reaction. My boss at my last job was the biggest jerk, but he gave me a hug and said congrats!!!

Ugh - that sucks. I also am the only one in my place who does what I do, so when I told my boss - he was less than enthusiastic. To make it worse, the person we hired - quit after the 2nd day of my maternity leave. I had to train her for weeks; for nothing. It was awful.
Hope you have better luck!

Oh no!! I don't think anyone here will quit, I am pretty sure they aren't going to bring in someone to cover for me, but now that you say that, I wonder.... This is my first time taking leave from this company, and they didn't get anyone to replace the woman who's getting the boob job. I can do what I do from home, everything is digital, I am hoping to turn maternity leave into a WAHM type thing
