BTDT Winthrop Births: Anesthesiologist questions
I have a questions regarding anesthesiologists at Winthrop covered under my insurance (BCBS).
This is my second pregnancy. My first was born at Good Sam and my issue there was that they asked me if I wanted the epidural. I said sure bc I was in so much pain. Then weeks later I get a $3000+ bill from the anesthesiologist saying that they aren't in network and I have to pay the bill. I went back and forth and pretty much they said I should have asked prior to getting the shot if my insurance would cover it. Right, because at midnight, under many pain killers in the delivery room THAT was what I was concerned about....
But that's besides the point; I don't want that to happen again with my current pregnancy. This time I'll be at Winthrop and don't know how to go about figuring this out ahead of time. Do they normally have more than one anesthesiologist there at any given time? Are ANY anesthesiologists covered under insurance? Should I call the hospital, the insurance company, the union hall ?
Thanks for your guidance!

Re: BTDT Winthrop Births: Anesthesiologist questions
i delivered there in 2010 (csection) and I had a spinal - no extra charge. I also had at the time BCBS. All i paid was a copay for myself and my son (in hospital copay of $500 for each of us).
ETA - they never asked who my insurance was, I never checked to see if the doc was in network. I would just call the hospital and BCBS.

BTDT Winthrop Births: Anesthesiologist questions
I gave birth there in September. I had an epi first with one doc then ended up having a c/s and another doc did the spinal. I didn't pay a dime.
You can always check with the hospitals to see who the docs are and then verify with your insurance. I am pretty sure you're able to fight that stuff though.
