I sat behind a baby at dinner tonight at a pizzeria who was blowing raspberries toward me while I ate. Thankfully, his dad had a paci on hand .........
That's all I have to say

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
I ebf dd. I had no interest in giving her a paci buttttttttttttttttttttttttt my mil kept telling me I should give it a go blah blah blah. I believe I first gave it to her when she was 7 or 8 weeks. She had no interest. She would suck for 2secs and spit it right out. At almost 4months (cant believe that) she uses her had to self sooth. not sucking her thumb her hand.lol shes also at the point where she wants to put everything that she gets her hands on right in her month.
babies cry and i see no need to stick something in their mouths to shut them up.lol

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
I mean, if you MUST KNOW, I used it for SIDS risk reduction and so she wouldn't suck on her hands. She uses it to shut me up though for sure.

Is this conversation still going on? Someone needs to give you all pacifiers to shut you up!
Henry has one, he's 6 weeks. He uses it and has no problem BFing. We call it a soo (for SOOther). Yup.

I call Ozzie Bobo sometimes - just because it sounds like Bubba and I call him Bubba sometimes, too.
Now it makes even more sense.

LOL!!! We call them "beeps" - idk why. If I say "mama beep?" she'll take it out and stick it in my mouth (but i don't let her complete the act because i don't want my germs on her paci lol) she's pretty forceful about it though, like "SHUT UP, LADY!"

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?

is there a reason not to give them pacifiers that doesnt have to do with BFing? Like will it be hard for us to get rid of it later down the line or something? I dont want to create an addict lol I also read that pacifier use reduces SIDS. I went through hell with DD and her pacis. First it was her losing it every 10 min and screaming to get it back, then it was keeping track of them, she only used it to sleep but she was addicted , the biggest challenge was getting rid of it, it was hell! It took 2 yrs and took her a while to forget about it. It was always something, I hated the thing, lol. So I always said if we had another one there would not be a paci, so we haven't used it with DS yet, he diesn't miss it and neither do I

pacifiers- yes or no?
We actually got scolded by the lactation consultant at the hospital when she found out we let the nurses give DD a pacifier. She told us that DD would have trouble learning to latch because of it. I'm sure all babies ate different but my DD had no problems learning to latch. She actually didn't like the pacifier in the first couple weeks and usually rejectd it, I guess because she could tell it wasn't the breast. Even now at 6 weeks it sometimes gives her comfort and other times she spits it out once she realizes there's no milk coming out of it.

DD will be 12 weeks Wednesday and she has no interest in the paci either. My MIL too keeps saying she needs it and I'm like no she doesn't. DD also sucks her hand, like her index and middle finger. Whatever works!

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
Stony Brook gives them pacifiers, I dont believe I asked for it either.
If you are breast feeding they say to avoid it for nipple confusion, but as with anything it all depends on your kid, some don't have any issues. My DS will latch onto my breast, the bottle or the binki and has from the first few days.
3 of my 4 kids used pacifiers consistently( 1 didnt want anything to do with it after the first 2-3 months). And with my DD we were told to keep her pacifier longer than normal due to the SIDS risk and her issues.
We didn't have any major issues getting rid of the pacifiers.

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
I told the nurses no pacifiers because i wanted to ebf. Three weeks later, I caved in and gave ds a paci, because he was using me as a pacifier. At first he spit it out, but we kept giving it to him ( big mistake). Once he started taking it, he cried if it fell out. This made us wake up 4-5 times a night . Finally at 6 1/2 months, we did away with it using the ferber method. It took only 2 or 3 days. Now at 9 1/2 months he puts himself to sleep, and rarely wakes up at night.

pacifiers- yes or no?
We use the Paci when she had collic (happiest baby on the block) but after she got over that hump we only use it when she's super fussy. But other than that we dont use it when she is going to sleep because she screams if it falls out of her mouth and we had to put it in about 20 times. if you can I would hold off on the paci. At the NICU the gave my DD a paci she took it but was never in love with it and after she got the hang of BF she did not want anything to do with the paci.

Re: pacifiers- yes or no?
I wasn't planning on giving DS1 a pacifier right away, but he ended up in the NICU and they give them to all of the babies. It was very soothing for him and didn't affect BFing. DS2 also took the pacifier early on, but doesn't seem as attached to it as DS1 was. It hasn't interfered with BFing DS2 at all.
