Had my first internal last night
And it wasn't that bad. It certainly wasn't the most comfortable thing ever, but didn't hurt as much as I anticipated. The strep test was a bit more painful.
Also learned that I'm fingertip dilated and starting to efface, so getting excited!
T - 30 days!

Had my first internal last night
I just had the strep test tonight and it totally hurt! I thought I was going to have an internal, but I didn't, I guess that will be next week...

Honestly, the internal wasn't that bad, although I did find it incredibly freaky that the doc could feel the head. Yuck!

It is really weird they just reach on in and can feel the head ... did they do a growth sono for you?

He said not until first week of December, which seems super late. I'll be 38+ weeks by then, so why even bother, right? Oh well!

I know!! I mean, maybe I interpreted it wrong, but he definitely said "oh, she hasn't dropped yet, because i feel her head very high still". When I told DH, he asked if the doctor had put his whole arm in.

WHAT!!!!!!!! i was going to say the same thing! they can feel the head that close to the end!!! 
and  about your your DH said, sound slike something mine would say too!

okay you and i are like a week apart i think. Friday is always my day that i change weeks so today is officially 35 weeks.. doctor is doing my strep b on Tuesday. I asked the nurse, is that what an "internal" is and she just said, well it's an internal exam... so I dont really understand. I get that the strep be is internal but i meant the thing that everyone refers to specifically as an "internal".
Can someone please explain to me how a strep b test differs from what a pap test is like? meaning, what they do, not what they test for obviously.
Then, an "internal" that i hear all about. Is that when they reach up like into the cervix I mean if doctors are saying they feel the head, that would mean they are going into and beyond the cervix, right?? But also, if you aren't dilated, lets say, isn't that really painful- like they are manually opening it? ugh, sorry for the descriptive questions but im getting freaked out. and i wonder why for some, an internal exam is super painful and then others say, not really.

definitely agree - this whole thing is super confusing.
the strep test is like a pap, but a little more painful because everything down there is more sensitive. at my appt, they did that first.
then he told me to take a deep breath, and he went further in to check the cervix. i'm only finger tip dilated, so you are right, that's probably why it didn't hurt that bad. it was just more uncomfortable.
i read on another message board that feeling the head at this point is like trying to find a bowling ball under a comforter!
