Anyone but especially Dr. A patients. RE: Taking maternity leave a week or so before due date.
I am starting my claim today with my job and they send the papers directly to my doctor. I called the office to ask them to wait until my next appointment because I wanted to speak to him first.
I drive over 30 miles to my job each day and then home and its getting difficult to be in the car for that long, lots or pressure and just awkward..plus with the winter coming, I dont feel safe at all. So I wanted to ask if I can go out 1-2 weeks before my due date. I dont think thats unreasonable, even if I didnt work that far from home but when I asked the front desk if its usually okay, they said, well there has to be a medical reason. They were nice and all but it just made me a little nervous that he might say NO. I mean, is this really an unreasonable request. Isnt being 38 weeks pregnant, medical reason enough that you should be able to stop working?
What do you think?
eta: OR, what if, before then I felt like I really couldnt do it anymore... Im just getting nervous and feel like I might be forced into working when I feel like I cant any longer and Im getting anxious over it. Regardless Im taking 12 weeks max so its my loss that Im taking away from time with the baby...

I think it is standard to go out 2 weeks prior to your due date and that's usually what the insurance will approve.

i am surprised the doctors office said that...my doctor told me to let them know when i want to stop working and they will fill out he paper work accordingly (assuming it is within reason). i would say a week or two weeks before your due date is completely within reason speak with your doctor directly at your next appt...sometimes the office staff just gives the standard rules while the doctors are more understanding

sorry I'm not a Dr. A. Patient; but just wondering if you stop at 38 weeks; does that cut into your Short Term Disability or your 12 week FMLA? Not sure what your maternity benefits are; but my HR department told me I only get 12 weeks FMLA which is to be taken with the 6 weeks STD. So if I stop work 2 weeks before; I start my 12 week leave (10 weeks home with the baby). I know each company has different policies; just curious...

My job works the same way. The 12 weeks FMLA (where for me, I get my insurance still paid for) starts ticking my last day of work. The 6 weeks paid leave starts when I have the baby, b/c that 6 weeks is for medical recovery.

I am a patient of dr a and I went out early but due to medical reasons. I do not think he woul have signed me out just because I didn't want to commute to the city.

A girl at my job went 3 weeks before her due and her daughter came 2 weeks late. I feel like 3 weeks was really a waste, because she was at home for 5 weeks with no baby. I personally just plan on working until the end because I want to spend every moment I can with DS and I live 40 minutes away from my job. Everyone is different though. I would just express your concerns with your doctor.

Exactly the same for me. That's why my plan is to work up until I go into labor.

You can, but it will cut into your maternity leave and FMLA, you'll have to go back earlier, unless your job decides to let you stay out an extra 2 weeks extending it to 14 weeks
