You basically drink a special sugar drink (if you get the orange one it tastes like flat sunkist) wait for an hour and then they take your blood. Definitely no need to bring anyone with you. It's pretty boring, so take a book or magazine.

I drank the orange drink on my way to the doctor so I only had to wait about 20 minutes until they took my blood. No need to bring anyone with you.

I have mine at my next appt. I am going a few minutes early to drink the drink, then I will get my regular appt, than get blood drawn. It's easy. The first time I had dh with me b/c he came to all my appts, but this time he's staying home to watch dd.
You might feel a bit queasy between the sugar drink and blood drawn but no need to have someone there.

This was my experience as well.
For some reason I ended up loving the stupid drink and craved it periodically throughout my pregnancy

They gave me a small cup of a very sugary orange drink. The best way I can describe it is a very concentrated version of orange gatorade. Luckily it didn't make me sick, BUT it made the baby soooo hyper!! lol
I went by myself and brought a book

DH came with me because he had to get blood drawn also. It was nice to have him there because we talked and it made the time go by!

I had my test and a follow up on the same day. I went in drank the drink. I got the orange one also. They didn't give me a choice though. I really wasn't that bad. There was another woman in the office who was gagging over it. She looked like a complete drama queen. I then I had my follow up appointment and then waited another 15-20 minutes. They drew my blood and they told me that no news is good news.

DH came with me because it was a regular follow up appointment. I drank the orange flat soda which wasn't terrible at all...had my appt...waited another 30 mins and then had my blood drawn. I was told they would call if there was any news. Don't know how long it usually takes to come back

This is what I did, the drink for the 1 hour isn't bad at all.....the drink for the 3 hour was way worse! Yuck!

Mine was fruit punch flavored. I actually liked it. DH came with me, but only because I knew I'd be bored during the 1 hour wait and wanted some company.

Just got back from doing this and I hated every single second of it. They gave me the red flavored one, it wasn't bad but it made my  jump all over. I felt sick to my stomach and am so glad that is finally over with.
 I passed and don't have to take the 2 or 3 hour test.

It's just a blood test no reason for you to bring anyone with you.
I was lucky, my doctor gave me the drink to take home and drink 1 hour before they were going to take my blood at my appointment. DH came to that appointment, just cause he gets to hear heartbeat at the appointments so he comes whenever he can.

There are no restrictions before the 1 hour test. Eat and drink normally.
People will tell you there are ways to "trick" the test by fasting before the test or other such things. You do not want to "trick" the test because you want to be sure your body really can handle glucose properly. And as for fasting, no matter what you eat before the test, your body should be able to regulate your blood sugar level. I just wouldn't eat a bowl of candy beforehand.
