BTDT moms.. pushing question lol

Im at 32 weeks at its getting very uncomfortable to do anything, just so hard to move around, have energy or physcially able to reach for things, stretch for anything....etc..... you get the point. So, its like, I am just thinking and its like, how am I going to have the strength to do one of the most physically demanding things ever. PUSH a baby out! Im so nervous that I will have no strength to even do it for longer than a little bit. Does the strength just miracally appear..i mean, i know its diff for everyone but did any other btdt moms feel this way prior to labor?

Re: BTDT moms.. pushing question lol

I am the weakest person on the planet.
Never worked out a day in my life.
Tired and lazy as all get out- and forget it while pregnant.

But pushing is not the same as running a race or working out in a gym.

First of all, your body is releasing adreline like crazy during the end stages of labor- so you get a boost from that.
Secondly- you are just focused on getting that baby out. I just wanted the pain to stop- that was all. I didn't feel like I physically couldn't push because I was weak- I felt like I physically couldn't take the pain anymore- and that motivated me to do whatever they told me to get her out.
I wasn't even sure if I was doing it right or if it was having any effect- but I was doing it.

When the time comes, you will too- trust me!

I didn't even think about it that way! I woke up at 345 to my water breaking and probably only had 3 hours of sleep before that. I delivered DS at 1pm and can honestly say I didn't even feel tired.

When the time came to push I was scared but never even thought about being tired. I just wanted to see my baby so I pushed like he!! I remembered someone telling me the harder you push the less you have to push. So I pushed with everything I had from the first push!

When I almost fainted getting my IV I looked at my Dh and said "I almost fainted getting an IV, how am I going to get this baby out?!" you get such a rush of adrenaline. You will be fine!

Also, try not to worry about delivery. I know it sounds crazy but at the end of my pregnancy I kept telling myself that I was going to have an easy delivery. It was going to be quick, the drugs were going to work, and it wasn't going to be that bad. I figured I could spend the last few weeks worrying myself sick or I could hope for the best. My delivery was not that bad and I would do it again tomorrow just to have DS.

BTDT moms.. pushing question lol

Totally crashing the pregnancy board tonight, lol. Your body will just do it. I felt the same as you. I was miserable my last month, weak and barely slept. I was in labor for 23 hours and pushed for an hour and a half but honestly, the pushing didnt seem like that long. You get breaks and you are so focused that you just do it. You will be fine, our bodies are designed to work that way. It was actually funny when I was in the pushing stage, there was a new nurse on staff and the doctor told me to stop pushing. He called her over and said "come look at this, she's not pushing and the baby is still moving out. Her body would deliver that baby even if she didn't push".... crazy! Best of luck, you will be fine Chat Icon

I am not a physically strong person. I wound up pushing for over four hours due to DD having her arm up by her head. I would push her down and she'd go right back up afterwards. I was determined not to have a C-section and DD wasn't in any distress so my doctor let me keep trying. Oddly enough, I never felt tired, never felt like "I can't do this", I actually couldn't believe 4 hours had gone by. The only side effect I had was a majorly stiff neck from being in the same position for so long.

You can do it, your body just knows what to do.

I'd have to agree with the other posters tha you do find the strength to push, but with me right at the end, the last push, they had to really coax me into it as I was like I'm done I can't do it anymore. But I did find the strength to do it.

Thank you for asking this question and thank you to the responders. This was helpful to read! There was an article on the Motherlode blog of the NYTimes about very bad tears during pushing that I read last night and was feeling totally freaked out! Happy to be reminded about the adrenaline surge :)

Re: BTDT moms.. pushing question lol

It's weird, bc the pushing part is kind of easy imo. Your body will tell you when you need to push, it feels like everything is centered around your stomach. You can feel the contractions growing and just know that the baby has to come out.

Your body is so filled with adrenaline that you feel like the strongest person on the planet. And when he baby comes out, you feel like you could accomplish anything. It's a really cool feeling actually.Chat Icon

Re: BTDT moms.. pushing question lol

I agree with what a lot of the PP are saying. I was SO out of shape when I delivered my DD. I had gained 50 lbs, could barely walk up a flight of stairs with out being out of breath. I got her out in 10 mins. When the nurses were telling me to hold my breath for 10 seconds and push, I remember saying to them "im so out of shape I cant even hold my breath that long" You'll get through it.

Re: BTDT moms.. pushing question lol

i agree with what the other mommies said. Also, the pain is a lot less when you push than if you wait out the contraction. I got so tired and they let me "rest" during one or two contractions. The pain was so bad i pushed anyway. Your body just kind of goes on auto pilot and does what it's supposed to do.

This exactly!! You actually WANT to push through the contractions...you'll do great!!!

I can tell you I was extremely anxious about delivering and labor, and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: BTDT moms.. pushing question lol

I don't know if its because I had an epidural but I pushed for like 1.5 hrs and had to take a breather... At one point I was like "um... What do we do if she doesn't want to come out". I even said "I give up!!!" Chat Icon I took a break for about an hour... And finally 3 hrs from when the pushing first began, she made her entrance into the world...

It's sooo not easy... There is no magic strength IMO... The only thing that seemed to help was just being at the end of my rope... And reaching down and feeling her head RIGHT there... That gave me my incentive to get her out...

THIS. I pushed for about 45 min but once she was born, all I kept saying was " that was the hardest thing I EVER had to do in my life ". It is so exhausting and I was sweating to death and at one point I just wanted to give up. My hubby kept putting ice packs on me and holding my head up while pushing but it was just making me more aggrevated, lol. The pain wasnt bad it just takes sooo much out of you to push!

Yep! Exactly! I also was exhausted before I even started pushing.. I had contractions all weekend and didn't sleep at all for 2 nights... So by the time I was pushing, I was going on 3 sleepless nights... I had no problem telling the nurses to keep her for the rest of the night so I could finally sleep Chat Icon

Re: BTDT moms.. pushing question lol

Pushing is def so hard but something takes over and you get it done! I had the best nurse aka my push coach and she helped motivate me so much. I got it done in an hour and had to turn epi down a bit so I knew where to push and it helped a lot. I didn't feel pain just pressure! Oh and almost forgot to say I did this on zero sleep, DD was born 5:45am!

Good lil hun u will do fine!!!
