Baby Shower gifts
Hello ladies I have a question for all of you. Would you prefer to only get stuff off your registry list or would you like something more personalized like say a growth chart and wall hanging that were handmade with your childs name on it....I am trying to think of ideas for my SIL whose shower is Dec 1 and wanted to get other opinions....I like the idea of personalized stuff but when I had my shower everyone got me all the pratical stuff bc I needed almost 3 of everything....TIA for your help and a healthy 9 months to all of you...

For me I would prefer to get mostly stuff off of my registry unless it's clothing, toys, etc... I got BIL/SIL a blanket with their DD's name and DOB embroidered on it and a keepsake like that is nice. Etsy has some cuter personalized stuff like the onesie stickers indicating months for monthly pictures... I would spend some time on Etsy and see what you can find but also get her something off of her registry.
As for decor items that would need to be hung up in the nursery I know exactly what I want and if someone got me something that I didn't specifically pick out I probably would use it. I would probably stay away from anything like that.
But that is just my opinion 
ETA: I think books always make a nice gift as well! We also got our neice some DC related Childrens books. "Good Night Washington DC," and "Alexander the Old Town Mouse" since they live in Alexandria...

You can stick to the registry with something else that is fun. For my sister, I got her pack and play off the registry and then got her a custom diaper bag and made about 50 onsies with funny sayings on them. It was great!

i agree with this. i knew/know very specifically how i want my nursery set up so i probably wouldn't use decor that someone else picked out.
that being said, i really appreciated other gifts that weren't off my registry. i have a very small fam and few friends so trust me, i was mostly hoping for registry gifts but the books i got, handmade blankets, clothes etc i also loved very much
eta- i have been scouring etsy for "my 1st..." holiday bibs. if you want to do something unique that's not on her registry, i think getting pj's or bibs or onsies etc for every holiday through the year is a really cute idea. i remember someone did that for a friend of mine once and i LOVED the idea.

it depends ... if it was a close friend or a sister I would not mind if they got me something not on my registry because its nice to get something you werent expecting .. however for those older ladies that really dont have great taste they should stick to the registry

ditto. i'd actually prefer something practical from a btdt mom. for my shower, a friend got me a basket full of things that looked kind of random at the time, but turned out to be absolute must-haves. way more useful than the 45731 blankets and booties i got.

If I were to get a personalized gift then I would also buy something off the registry. I try to stick with the registry though because you never know if someone gets a similar personalized gift.

I'd get both something off the registry then something personalized keep in mind what a previous poster mentioned unless you know her theme for her nursery I'd stay away from something to hang
