Is it possible to change godparent after baptism?
My cousin wants to change his DS's godfather, after a huge falling out with the family. My Cousin and the godfather have not spoken in 6 mos, and godfather has since moved out of the continental U.S. permanently. His DS was baptized in march of 2011.
I've read some conflicting answers: some say no, a god parent cannot be changed since they were the witness and is listed on the baptismal certificate, which cannot be changed.
Anyone have any experience with this, before he calls the church?

Re: Is it possible to change godparent after baptism?
from the Diocese of Rockville Centre website:
Can the godparents be changed at a later date?
No. Although other changes can be authorized for the baptismal register, this one is not permitted in the Diocese of Rockville Centre (somewhat analogous to changing the best man and maid of honor in the marriage register).http://www.drvc.org/the-chancery/sponsors-and-godparents.html

nope.. they told us that at the baptism class. They witnessed the baptism it cant be changed.
it seems to happen alot that people have uninvolved godparents.

Re: Is it possible to change godparent after baptism?
Nope. The Nicene Creed states one baptism and to have another godparent you would have to be re-baptised, which isn't allowed.

I would not really worry about it. In the church it just means that the person will be their for the child in their religious upbringing. i am sure there are other family members that can "be there" for the child

Re: Is it possible to change godparent after baptism?
my father tried when i was a baby b/c he chose his uncle as my godfather..i think at the time he was cheating on his wife and they ultimately divorced. i think there was other family BS going on as well and the church would not allow it.
