Does anyone take prenatals that don't contain iron?

If so, do you supplement and how much should we be taking?

I'm going to ask my ob at my next appt, but wanted to pick something up now in hopes that it'll help with the exhaustion.

I take prenatals without iron from GNC and I do not supplement. The iron was making me constipated. I just try to eat cereal fortified with iron that is also loaded with fiber (frosted mini wheats) and also to eat enough meat. My levels have been good so far but I'm on 15w along. My doctor told me they'd monitor my iron levels and revisit the idea of supplementing later if iron ends up being low.

Hmmm...maybe i'll wait then. I eat plenty of chicken and red meat, I might be getting enough iron then.

I just thought you had to for some reason.

I think its suggested because a decent percentage of pregnant women develop iron-deficiency anemia towards the end of pregnancy. I ended up getting it during my last trimester and had to take an iron supplement on top of my prenatals that already contained iron. I guess if it doesn't bother you, take one with iron but I would def tell your OB if you take one without iron.

My prenatals are gummies from Vitafusion and do not contain iron. With my first pregnancy, I needed to supplement. With this pregnancy, my iron levels were fine (according to recent blood work).

I wouldn't take extra iron unless you've been Dx with a deficiency. Too much is bad for you and the baby.
