When do they begin internals?
When I saw my OB 2 weeks ago he didn't think I'd make it to 36 weeks. (which is tomorrow). They never even scheduled my CS, but scheduled a friends already who is due around me. I think b/c he doesn't feel I'll make it to 38 so why bother putting me on the schedule? My CS will be at 38 weeks the latest.
The peri had been checking my cervix but didn't check this past week since I was 35 weeks and at the end so it's obviously going to be shorter.
I have an OB apt tonight and he was only checking me b/c I was pre-term and short. Do they start checking now. The nurse never seems to know if I need to get undressed for an exam. Shouldn't I know if I'm dialating, effaced or whatever so I know if there is any progress? I know I can leave there with no progress and wake up at night in labor and be 5 cm dialted, but I'd kinda like to know if something is happening. I'm just thinking they don't check since the peri didn't check and they are more thorough than the OB.

You can ask them too, but they may not want to stir things up, especially since the results don't mean anything. With DD I was 3 cm and 50% for 2 weeks before I went into labor (she came one day early). With DS, I was only 1 cm and 40% and went into labor two weeks early when my water broke. I always asked starting at 36 weeks for internals. Bled after the first one first pg and 2nd one this pg.

Re: When do they begin internals?
I wonder if they can see dilation on the internal sono (which Ive been getting my whole pregnancy). I know they can see funneling of the cervix which they said is opening from the inside.

No idea, but I'd ask! If they're in there doing your GBS swab, you should just see if they'd be willing to shove their hand in to let you know what's going on. You're getting so close now!

What is GBS? I don't want a hand in there! LMAO!! I just want to know if there is a chance I'm close. My cervix was only 23 two weeks ago so it was pretty short. Plus they keep telling me I'll go soon.

group b strep -- they swab the front and the back. Usually done at 36 w. The internal is done by putting a hand in your vagina, feeling the opening, and bouncing the baby in slightly.
(If you don't want a hand in there, don't ask for an internal lol)

Re: When do they begin internals?
I just asked My Dr. at my last appt. because I do not remember any internals for my first pregnancy. WHich makes sense because my Dr. starts them at 38 weeks...I had DS at 38 weeks.
However, i am surprised with twins they are not going to do it any earlier, especially since they said they would schedule me at 37.
just kinda has me

Re: When do they begin internals?
My OB didn't check me at each appointment. He said that I looked to good and dilating hurt. I absolutely hated this response and felt like I should be checked. He was right though. I never dilated on my own. And even with cervadil and pitocin my progress was slow initinally. It was also mighty uncomfortable to be checked so I'm glad he didn't unnecessarily.
I think you'll also know. Towards the end she was making her way down and I could definitely feel the pressure.

Re: When do they begin internals?
Mine won't do them unless I ask or he thinks it's absolutely necessary (until I get to 40 weeks).

Re: When do they begin internals?
My ob's office doesnt do them till 39-40 weeks unless there is a reason to.
I just had them check at my 36 week appt, due to elevated BP and the fact that i had 3 contractions while in the office with them. As the other poster said, they were doing the GBS test anyways, so i was already undressed so why not check.
