"just" swelling and "just" contractions?
i feel like my doctor is so lax. when i complain about swelling or contractions, he says "yep, normal" but i still feel somewhat nervous.
my question is, is it normal to have permanently swolllen feet (im 30w with twins) and irregular but frequent contractions?
I have an appointment Monday, so I was waiting till then to complain yet again lol.

Re: "just" swelling and "just" contractions?
I was also told by several doctors that this is all normal. Our uterus is so much larger than normal that it gets agitated easily and we contract more and sooner. I haven't had foot or ankle swelling but heard it's also normal with any pregnancy. I have been fine all summer with my rings and just had to take them off this weekend because my knuckles are expanding. They are usually concerned with pre e if you gain 4 or more lbs in a week or have headaches or protein in urine. Pre e is also more prevalent in twins. My dr seemed convinced I'd present with it by 34 weeks but so far so good!
I think drs just see this stuff all the time so it's not news to them like it is to us who haven't been through it. I've also been told that excruciating hoo ha pain is totally normal with twins too and it will get worse as time goes on. Supposidly tylenol will help but they lie.

same here - i had swollen feet from VERY early on, as well as cramps, severe back pain etc - my doctors are unconcerned. i worked for them, my mom worked with them in the hospital, and i've been going to them for years so, i trust them emphatically. i tell them what's going on and if they aren't concerned, i'm not either.

Oh boy I better check mine! I usually try to wear my cute flats as long as I can so I don't feel like a frump but I'm at the "I don't give a rats hiney" point in my pregnancy. I'll just make sure I wear makeup and do my hair to feel less frumpy. Lol

i was going to suggest uggs too! i went straight from flip-flops into my uggs bc they are the only things my feet can tolerate. ballet flats make them swell up like sausages. the way uggs fit, even if your feet shrink back, you'll still be able to wear the ones that are a size bigger i think. it's like slippers!

Re: "just" swelling and "just" contractions?
its so ironic - when i had super swollen feet it was ME that thought it was normal and my doctor was the one who was concerned (and he is a very lax doctor). i really thought it was nothing, but for me it was the beginning of pre-e. but i also had other symptoms (specifically protein in urine) that made it more of an issue. im sure with carrying twins it is more normal.

Re: "just" swelling and "just" contractions?
Let me know what ur Dr says at ur appt....my feet and ankles started to become swollen this week. And I'm kinda worried but then everyone is telling me its normal....its just strange how it happened all of a sudden, I'm 33w pregnant with twins. I'm not feeling any contractions but I feel lots of pressure and get back pain every once in awhile.

Re: "just" swelling and "just" contractions?
I had pretty significant swelling from about 17 weeks with my twins. My dr was not concerned as long as my bp was fine and I had no protein in my urine (he started testing it around 27 weeks with 24 hour urine collections).
That being said I had an appointment around 31 weeks after being on my feet all day and my doctor was shocked how bad my swelling was. He immediately said no more work and off my feet as much as possible. (I had just been given the ok for normal activity by my high risk because my cervix was looking so good).
At 33 weeks 5 days I had an appt again and my bp was high. I had a c section the next day due to pre eclampsia.
Swelling could just be swelling but just make sure they keep an eye on your bp and urine. Also if you have a headache or are seeing spots make sure you tell your dr (signs of pre eclampsia)
hang in there!!!

Re: "just" swelling and "just" contractions?
Thanks guys. One question , when they check your urine at the ob, are they checking for protein in each time? My nurses dip some tester stick in each time, I just assumed it was for protein.
Also I just bought two pairs of shoes from payless a size up cuz all my shoes hurt so bad.

yes the dipstick checks for protein at eveyr appt. once mine was elevated i had to do the 24-hour collection. the results from my 24-hour were like 4x higher than they should be and that alone put me on hospital bedrest.
