Sonogram Mini Scare yesterday
Sorry if this is a bit long in advance...
my last sono was on the 18th. when i went for that sono, they were not able to see kidneys, spine and her face. They said it doesn't mean anything is wrong, just that she was in the wrong position for those shots. Everything else, seemed fine. This was supposed to be the first part of my anatomy scan.
I went in yesterday to complete the anatomy scan and at least was belly up, so they were able to see her spine and her kidneys, although her face was still hidden. I was at the sono for at least 15 minutes at this point and DD was not moving from her position so the tech told me she was not able to see her heart to complete the scan or her face. Usually we listen to the heartbeat first, b ut for some reason, we did this last yesterday. As soon as her heartbeat came up, it sounded off, like the rythm was off. Not the usual galloping of horses sound, but like it was being interrupted by something every other heartbeat in between. I heard it right away and the sono tech kept listening to the HB. This entire time we had been having a very friendly convo and then she just stopped talking altogether when this happened.
I didn't say anything because i wanted to see what she would say. She told me to get dressed and walk around, shake my belly, anything, to see if DD would switch positions so that they could see her heart. after 10 minutes, i came back and she tried again. we heard her heartbeat again and again, it sounded off. at this point i was truly freaked out so i mentioned how it didn't sound right, she stayed quiet and then she said don't worry about, the baby has the hiccups and that is what you are hearing in between the HB.
Apparantly, most of the staff was out yesterday due to the holiday and the ongooing Jewish holidays, so both my regular nurse practitoner and Dr were not there so i spoke with a different nurse. I asked her about the heartbeat and she said she would speak with the Dr. and ask him if he wanted me to come back in 1 week instead of 2 so that i could see the baby's heart again. but to make my appt for 2 weeks out. I didn't hear back from anyone yesterday, do I called first thing this morning to ask if i should change my appointment to next Tuesday (so DH can come) instead of the 23rd (2 weeks ago) and i am still waiting to hear back.
Has anyone had this happen to them? Can the baby having the hiccups really interfere with the HB?

Sonogram Mini Scare yesterday
i have no experience with this, i just wanted to wish you luck at your next sono...ill be thinking of you and your LO. for now, try to trust the doctor and believe that it really is just the hiccups, i doubt they would lie to you about it and if it truly was a concern i hope they would have call you to come in sooner

If they suspected something was wrong with the baby's heart they would have referred you to have a fetal echocardiogram.
I think your is just fine! Try not to worry.

I agree with this. I know its hard not to worry, talking with your Dr. will help, I would def. keep reaching out until you confirm it with them.

I never heard of it but, it sounds like they would have said something if they were concerned. I would go back as soon as you can for your own peace of mind.

Re: Sonogram Mini Scare yesterday
If they suspected something was wrong they would have had you come back, go for a second opinion or send you to the hospital for monitoring.
I've had it where the heartbeat was irregular or too fast so i was in the office for almost 2 hours on monitors hooked up to heartrate monitors to check the patterns, because apparently their heartbeat isn't always the same and you can have periods of slower and periods of faster beats.

Re: Sonogram Mini Scare yesterday
They are moving when they have hiccups so is harder to get a read. They often have to redo mine when a baby is moving too much. They have to be able to catch it just right to measure.
I'm sure it's fine.

Re: Sonogram Mini Scare yesterday
I think they would have had someone look into things if it was warranted. I'm glad you're reaching out to the doctor though - I know I need tons of assurance for everything that happens.
One of the things that I looked at when choosing practictioners was an office where an MD with additional radiology degree does the scans, NOT a technician. If you're not happy with how your office runs when things don't go "typically", that might be a change to consider for this pregnancy or future ones. This system alleviated a lot of anxieties for me, as I was able to ask all those questions (and be confident of the answers) as each sonogram was being performed.

I'm sorry you had to go through this but I think if something was really wrong they wouldn't have let you leave without consulting with the dr first. (even if just by phone)
Just try and relax and I will everything is ok!
