Milk Supply Question
Hey ladies, with DS I had low milk supply and went through hell. Is there anything I can do while prego with #2 to increase supply when the baby comes.

Milk Supply Question
I asked the midwife this throughout my pregnancy and she just said to drink lots and lots of water and we'd discuss after DS was born. I decided I couldn't handle the anxiety over weight gain like I had with DD (she almost hit the 10% loss of failure to thrive because I was trying to EBF) so on night one in the hospital we decided to FF. I've been "supplementing" with breast milk whenever I can, though. I pumped a whole ounce yesterday and a whole ounce today (days 5 & 6) and I put him on the boob about 2x a day. Definitely not able to EBF, but I'm proud of what I'm accomplishing! It's all "gravy" as far as I'm concerned since I know he'd thrive on formula alone (DD did!).
Everyone wanted to start pumping me with supplements and having me start pumping at the hospital and nurse around the clock 24 hours a day and offered me the SNS again and I just couldn't do it all again just to fail and have him starve. I couldn't. It was devastating last time. I cannot even begin to tell you how much happier I am this time not going through all that! I couldn't even imagine with a toddler trying to do all that -- and trying and failing like last time because my body just won't produce? I couldn't do it again.
I've heard a lot of people say they have great success with #2 despite problems with #1. I was hopeful but not terribly optimistic. I'm so much happier this way.
Wishing you the best!

Re: Milk Supply Question
There's nothing you can do while pregnant. Once the baby comes, just nurse, nurse, nurse! The baby is the biggest helper when it comes to boosting supply. The body makes what's removed, and the more you BF, the more you make. Lots of skin to skin. Eat well and stay hydrated. Find an LLL or other BFing group nearby for support and to answer questions.
GL mama! I had supply issues with my first, but everyone I've spoken to says you make more milk with your second.

Re: Milk Supply Question
crashing- if you want, once baby is born you can drink something called mothers milk tea- helped me. People have also said pills such as ferungeek? tablets. Which are also supposed to help wtih milk supply. Dont stress. You can drink lots of water, make sure you are eating well, steel cut oatmeal.

Re: Milk Supply Question
I drank mother's milk rea, I used fenugreek and I used more milk plus. I think the more milk plus is what helped me the most! BTW it was WAYYYY easier and better the 2nd time around!

Re: Milk Supply Question
I have much more milk this time around. I struggled with DS1 too, I was always taking something to boost my supply. My supply is beginning to level out now but I still have extra. I've heard that pumping after you nurse in the first few weeks can really help your supply. I didn't because I ended up engorged and was dealing with clogged ducts and a milk blister, and also food allergies at 1 week PP. I just didn't have the time and couldn't handle the extra stress. Good luck, but I'm sure it will be fine
