Question about inducing labor

Tomorrow I have my 40 week appointment. We will schedule my to be induced for next wednesday obviously if I don't go on my own. I've been reading about the procedure to get an understanding. Does stripping of the membranes routinely get offered? Will my doctor offer it tomorrow or would I have to ask for it if this is what I want? Anyone have this done before?

Re: Question about inducing labor

I got it done at 39 weeks. My dr just did it, I didn't have to ask. It didn't do anything for me though. It was quite uncomfortable, and I still had to be induced at 41 weeks. I had a good experience being induced though, everything went smooth, and I was only in labor for 7 hrs. This was my first too. Gl

Re: Question about inducing labor

For my first pregnancy, my doctor decided to induce me at 39 weeks because of the positioning of the baby. I was already in the hospital on pain medication and I could have sworn they gave me something through my IV tube to induce me. I don't think there was any stripping of anything in my case. Not sure why to pick one over the other; maybe the IV is for "right now" while stripping is to give it a nudge? But my water broke at about midnight, and I was only in active labor for almost an hour (gave birth at almost 4 AM). Everything went smoothly.
