Jack&Jill Baby Shower

So, my cousin, who is like my sister, is due one month before myself.

She's looking to have it in December, but wants to have a Jack and Jill.

Has anyone had one of these? Been to one of these? Do they play games at these? Ugh.. I'm so lost, lol

I'm looking for theme ideas and favor ideas -
ANY suggestions are welcome.

TIA

Re: Jack&Jill Baby Shower

My suggestion for this is to talk to her and manage her expectations as the Mom to Be -

I have been to one ....... it was AWFUL because they did it the same way you would do an all women's shower, but they added the men - WHAT man cares about Baby Bingo or watching the couple open 500 baby items? (Honestly, I hate it as a woman!!) It was weird and uncomfortable and horribly boring ! - At least when it's just the girls you get all catty and gossipy and talk about the stuff you normally don't talk to men about !

A friend at work did it for her sister, but did it more of party you'd have for ANY type of celebration - engagement, birthday whatever, where men and women are normally invited. - that one worked out well. Obviously everyone brought the gifts, but there were no cutesey games or obligatory ooohing and aahing over teen tiny hats b/c they didn't open the gifts at the shower .....

I really don't know what the 'norm' for these things is though - Good Luck !

I had one and it was great. We decied to do Jack and Jill because I have a lot of male friends whom I have worked with for over 10 years and couldn't imagine celebrating this time in my life without them.

We had no games (at my request) except to guess how many jelly beans were in the baby bottle. The hostesses also brought some beers in case any of the guys (or girls) wanted some. I think my brother had 2 and that was it.

For favors, the girls set up a beautiful dessert bar with candy and had pretty boxes that the guests could fill up and take home. It was perfect Chat Icon

Re: Jack&Jill Baby Shower

My last big shower was a Jack&Jill. We had games which involved guys playing as well. We did one where we put beer to baby bottles and the first one to drink it all, won. We also did the "dress the baby" and guys also participated, actually more than women. We got a few dolls and they had to dress the baby fully with diaper and once done they had to sit and feed the baby. The one who did the best, won a prize (I think they had about 1 minute to do it all). You will be surprise how many men don't know how to put a diaper on a baby. We also did something with a balloon but can't remember exactly what it was, all I remember is that a balloon was involved and it was a couple thing. Needless to say, everyone had a blast. The only thing we didn't do was open up gift because it was just too many and no time to do so. Plus I like opening them up in the comfort of my house and enjoying each gift.

Re: Jack&Jill Baby Shower

I've never been to Jack and Jill shower but I would suggest just doing a gift display - ask everyone to wrap in clear that way if the women want to look at the gifts they can but the men don't have to suffer through the whole opening of gifts part of a baby shower.

My shower was coed and DH and I were very happy with how it turned out, and our guests all said they had a great time (including the male guests). We didn't do any games. We just had a casual backyard barbecue with lots of food and beer (mostly for the men), and we just let everyone mingle and enjoy the day. We did open gifts but I made an effort to move through them very quickly so the men wouldn't get too bored. Most of the women sat up close to see the gifts while the men hung back and talked to each other. Overall it really depends on what kind of shower each mommy-to-be would be happiest with. I knew I'm not the cutesy games and very girly shower type. I loved it that my DH and dad could be there, as well as all the other important male family and friends in our lives. DH and I thought of the day as a great way to celebrate our first child with everyone we care about.

Almost all the showers I have been to have been Jack & Jill. They still play games; bingo; the clothes pin and you can't say "baby"; some have done the beer in the bottle drin contest for the guys.
And they've still opened gifts.

I don't see anything wrong with doing the shower same way you normally would and there just happens to be men there.

Re: Jack&Jill Baby Shower

I had one - my MIL planned it. There were NO games (I refused to have any) but she got a DJ and the food was catered. I think it was fun, we just ate and socialized and the kids danced. The one thing I didn't like is that she insisted I open up my gifts, what guy wants to sit through that? But it was her party (Chat Icon) so I did that towards the very end of the party.

I had a jack & shower it was luau theme as it was our 5th anniversary and we honeymooned in Hawaii. We did not open gifts we hired Polynesian dancers and overall more like a party. We did play a couple of games one specific to just men and the prize was coconut ciroc . Other prizes were moscato and 2 wine glasses and coffee and travel mug nothing too cutesy
