From start to finish how long does IVF take

I am trying to figure out if I do 3 IUI's, and they fail, and I move on to IVF if I can do a cycle before I leave for NY for Christmas.

So hypothetically I would get my last AF November 11th.

I would say no. You're better off enjoying your christmas vacation and start off the new year with your IVF. There are so many factors involved with an IVF cycle. You need constant monitoring. Depending on what RE you use, some are off for the holidays. If you do happen to get a BFPChat Icon depending on your protocol, you may have to do PIO shots, go for betas, etc. I would wait.Chat Icon

Okay. Thanks for the input. I don't mind waiting until after I get back, I just like to have a plan.

A typical IVF cycle is about 6 weeks long:
3 weeks for BCPs, ~10 days of stims, egg retrieval, wait 3-5 days, then egg transfer. Then a beta (pregnancy test) 14 days after your ER. Once you start stims you are at the RE every 1-3 days.

If you do 3 IUIs, and they all failed, you'd likely take December off and start IVF in January. And do a January-February cycle.

But hopefully IUIs work for you!

There is probably no way you can get 3 IUI's and an IVF cycle in before Xmas. IVF start to finish takes about 6 weeks depending on the protocol but sometimes there is different testing and paperwork involved before you begin so that can delay the start. We first met with our RE in November for testing and his suggestion was to enjoy the holidays and start up afterwards. We did that and it was good advice.

All 3 of my IVF cycles were 30-31 days total...
10 days of BCP
5 days leupron
9-11days of leupron & stim meds
trigger
5 day transfer
beta 10 days after transfer...

after transfer I was at the dr. day 1, 3, 5, 7 & 10...

everyone's protocol is different and depends on how you react to the meds and the office you go to. some people respond better than others and sometimes they need to be adjusted +/- dosage and days...

GOOD LUCK....hope you dont need IVF...

For me it was 1 cycle. I started on CD2 and transfer on CD 19. My protocol didn't call for BCP

IVF is a 6 week process. I recommend doing it when other life stressors are at a minimum and you can focus on just yourself.

My cycle was less than 6 weeks. I was never on the BCP. I got my period Sept 18 and went in for b/w and ultrasound the next day. I started stimms that night (Wednesday night) and will probably have my ER next week and ET 3 days later. With beta 2 weeks after that. So a total of 4 weeks of going into the clinic for monitoring and tests.

Re: From start to finish how long does IVF take

i started on 8/29 with BCP, stims started 9/25, my retrieval was 10/8, transfer 10/13, BFP 10/20.

i wouldn't try to plan this in advance. it doesn't make any sense to. that's like saying you are expecting the IUIs to fail - in which case whats the point? for all you know the first one could work and you'll be pregnant. or one cycle might take a week longer than any other cycle. there is really just no need to plan it cause there are so many unpredictable outcomes. good luck either way!

Normally i wouldn't bother putting much thought into this, but i live in Cali and have to fly back to NY for Christmas. So I need to book my flight soon. Just wanted to see if the IUI's don't work if IVF was even an option prior to my trip. I am a planner by nature. It keeps me calm.
